In this video, Ben Finkel covers an introduction to our Android App development course and the Java prerequisites you’ll need to ensure success. Google developed Android as a mobile-focused OS that’s specifically designed from the ground up to work with cell phones, tablets, and even the IoT.

Android is an incredibly flexible operating system that was designed to work on mobile devices. This began with cell phones, but soon expanded into the world of tablets and has even extended into the Internet of Things. This incredibly flexible system is touch-screen focused, with an emphasis on gestures, tapping, and pinching. That fundamental difference requires a unique approach to coding for UI. Because this was baked into the process from the beginning, though, Google has built in a number of development tools that make it relatively easy to design in the Android space. This video discusses some of the high-level concepts behind Android while introducing our course in app development.
