In this edition of Unboxed, we’re going back to 1990 to take a look at an imported vinyl box set from Metallica called “The Good The Bad & The Live: The 6 1/2 Year Anniversary 12-inch Collection” that covers their non-LP releases from 1984 to 1989… plus a bonus live EP that was exclusive to the set. So, if you’re sick of only seeing videos on those Walmart reissues, then definitely watch this video.

Let me know what you thought of this box and what your favorite record was. Hell, maybe you liked the poster the most! Also let me know if this is a box set you’d be interested in tracking down, or maybe you already have it. Let me know that, and anything else that makes sense, in the comments below.

It's a great box to have for any serious Metallica vinyl collector. Eye of the Beholder was also a Vertigo UK release, agree a serious omission.

Hehe, I bought a mint/near mint copy (including posters etc) of this from flea market for 16 EUR.. It was maybe 10+ years ago. I even tried to bargain it to 15 EUR, but the old lady didn't accept my generous offer :D

Seattle 89 was officially released on vinyl as part of the Justice mega box. Cool box, might get one.

I enjoyed your review! I recently purchased this set myself. I always wanted it and found one at the right price(85$!). I found out about it on a radio Metal show at the time called Metalshop. The host played "Harvester of Sorrow" from the live EP. I'm surprised you don't have the vinyl in good inner sleeves though. Mine had a a lot of static on them from being store in those jackets for years.

I didn't even know this boxset was a thing. Good thing I own all those singles already. I may hunt one down for that Seattle '89 disk since I live only 60 minutes away from Seattle.

I think this was pretty cool. The OG press of creeping death is a must have for my collection. This and the first 4 on vinyl would be nice in the collection really, even though my dislike for them has risen immensely. That’s a story for another vid later haha. Great video as always Matt!

Pretty cool, Matt. I don’t recall ever seeing that box before, although I have seen some of those releases individually. I had a few of those on cassette singles back in the day. I wish I knew where they were now. 🤷🏽‍♂️ Anyway, I’m gonna look for this. Thanks for the info.

Wow, would love to run across one of those. Though I guess I am glad I at least have the tracks in some form.

Fun Fact here about the Creeping Death e.p. I was a huge Metallica fan early on so I wasn't aware of any other fans other than my step sister's boyfriend who was a fan as well. He came over one day and told me he had a tape of a couple of rare Metallica he wanted to give me. It had Blitzkrieg and Am I Evil? on it. It was so heavy and didn't really sound like them. I figured it was probably recorded before Kill'em All. Flash forward roughly a year later I find the Creeping Death ep at The Record Bar and decided to pick it up even though I already had the tracks on it, it had really cool artwork. Turns out the ep was to be played on 45 and the tape that was given to me was recorded on 33 1/3. Lol. No wonder it was heavy as hell. 😆. I still listen to it ever now and again on 33 1/3 as that's how im used to hearing it.

I had this when it came out. The worst thing was they went on the cheap; the covers and vinyl were all VERY thin. But it was Metallica, so who cared.

My favorite tracks were Bellz + Sanitarium on the One B-Side.

My cousin has that set. I remember it coming out but never owned it. I'd love to have the Metallica box sets of that and the first four albums. BTW have you seen the new 12 lp vinyl box coming out by Destruction on High Roller records. Looks awesome. Limited to 666 copies
