Hi Adam, thank you for creating this video! I would like to ask two more things I run into:

1. Siri does not recognize the shortcut. For example, I have an English shortcut called “open the cave” but since I am Dutch see sometimes gets “open de keef” or open de case”.
2. What to do if you have multiple homes? I want to be able to ”turn off all lights” or “open the door” for a specific location. without interfering with the other location.

Do you have any suggestion on how to fix this?

Oh yeah I see a comment speak text not working. I also found that to be unreliable. Here’s my solution:

Create a text element of what you want to speak.

Make spoken audio from the Text object.

Play sound.

This can be in a shortcut that receives the desired text as input (input variable). Then use it from any shortcut you are making with the Run Shortcut command.

I found this to work in all cases and circumstances.

The trick with to get rid of the check mark notifications doesn’t seem to be working anymore. Do you have any other methods?

i think this video’s solution to #4 (dismiss open app notification) is outdated, it didn’t seem to work when i followed it exactly. i’ve tried many solutions but apple is stubborn on that one.

3. Notification trick doesn’t work any more

Hey Adam, you have recently inspired me to use the potential that shortcuts have. And I’m really liking it, except for this one problem that I have. I set up a shortcut, where my Apple TV would turn on and go the screensaver (like you recommended in one video) but whenever I try to run it when I’m outside, it doesn’t work, because shortcuts can’t recognize the Apple TV anymore until I’m back at home. I had the automation that this shortcut would run whenever I get close to my house, but I always get the notification, that running that shortcut failed.

OMG shortcuts is frustrating, i've paid for a video to play automatically to apple TV in the morning as if its my alarm to wake up. but it doesnt run when the phone is locked. like dude why the hell would they not allow the option to make that if anyone helps with this i would be eternally grateful

The notifications come back after a day or a restart.. they don't stay gone permanently.

I was creating shortcuts that I would trigger with “Hey Siri” followed by the name of the shortcut. I made many of them to speak a phrase of feedback or prompt me to answer a follow up question etc. I encountered 2 problems with this.

Siri would respond to my command (“working on that”, etc.) but that would interrupt the speaking voice of the shortcut.

Another problem I discovered one time, that was really confusing, was that I could not hear it speaking or asking me a question as the shortcut executed. I realized my volume had been turned down and the voice was speaking but I just could not hear it because of my phone volume.

To solve these issues I created a “Prep” shortcut. I never call it directly with “Hey Siri” or anything. Instead, I run it as a first action of all my interactive shortcuts so the above problems never happen again.

My “Prep” shortcut first runs: Dismiss Siri and Continue, so that Siri does not try to respond to my voice command and interrupt the shortcut. It then gets the device volume using the Get Device Details action. If it’s less than 0.9 it sets the volume to 90% with the set volume action. Simple, and super effective.

In each shortcut I make I call this routine with the Run Shortcut command and the shortcut will execute reliably every time at a volume I can hear and respond to if needed. No more problems whatsoever.

I’m so mad we can’t add touch input commands such as swipes and taps as shortcut actions. If they let us do that we could literally automate anything and everything. I’m guessing they don’t want to give us all that power. Maybe someone would use it for a harmful purpose I don’t know. But I wish I could do that so I could perform any action I want with apps whether they support Siri Shortcuts or not. Please apple I just want to live. It could make my life so much easier… 🙏

I’ve even tried, in the shortcut, turn on voice control (lets you speak commands like swipe left, show numbers, tap 7 (easily select screen elements), and play recordings of my voice in the shortcut. It didn’t work. What DID work was first to have the shortcut turn voice control on, set playback destination to a nearby (Bluetooth) external speaker, and and play a specific recording of pre-recorded voice commands to achieve a specific purpose. It worked but wasn’t practical. But the approach could technically automate an insane amount of actions if kept in a quiet place (to not interrupt the recording of voice commands) with a dedicated speaker for the task. But I can’t think of any action that would require this crazy dedicated and not easily mobile setup.

Do I have to set up the short cut on my phone vs my iPad? I added all my short cuts to Siri on the iPad but it won’t recognize them.

For certain automation activities, I’m getting notification to execute the automation manually. I have toggled off “Ask before running” and “Notify when run”.. it doesn’t seem to be working.. i still have to click on notification to run the automation.. plz suggest.

Hi, my homepod does not execute shortcuts because the iphone is not connected to the internet . If I connect the iphone then it executes. I've tried resetting it and turning Personal Requests off and on again, but it doesn't work. I don't have the "request authorization" item in the home app.

I have a scripting where I open an app through a scripted password through the Home Screen and the scripting thing has me do my password then it doesn’t do the checkmark and open the app. Instead, it does the banner and it stays there with a square and circle and I don’t know how to fix it please help me!!

Is there any way to "ask before run" to start the shortcut? Example is if I have a shortcut the does something when I connect to a certain wifi? It seems I can't disable the "ask before run" feature when it it not an action. Thanks.
