Well, the idea to fix inner and the tentfly sounds good but it works only one time.
If you set up this tent in pouring rain you are totally dry inside.
But if you have to pack up the wet tent, next time your inner tent is soaked if you don't take the dry inner out and pack it separate before you pack up the tent. With this type of tents it is possible but tricky and takes time.
Way better solucion is a - inner first- type of tent with a separate groundsheet that fits the tentpoles. In this case you have options to set up only the inner, only the fly and floor to have massive space inside, to take out the inner first and pack only the wet fly separate or set up the fly first and clip in the inner tent in heavy rain. For me the best way to cope with all weather conditions.
