This is honestly one of the most realistic couple interactions I've seen in a cartoon...

I like to think part of the reason he left was so that he wouldn’t lose his friend. He said despite everything he wasn’t jealous of Proteous, but when Merina showed up that changed. Not just because he was enamored with her, but because like he said it was the prince’s future. He knew he had no shot, but may always secretly long for her. For the first time his friend had something he desired and couldn’t have, and he’d rather leave then lose a friend over jealousy.

I always melt over Sinbad’s expressions when he pulls Marina to the helm, and when he says, “You.” Such a beautiful scene. ❤️

I honestly love how the point of this story of Sinbad is not about making him a better man or changing him, it's about reminding him who he once was and still is. I mean, Marina asked him the key question at the beginning- are you a thief or a hero? He is both of them but his story was about finding his true self again. And right here... This is him, this is the boy Protheus once considered a friend. Affection for Marina was what separated Sinbad from Protheus but it also brought him back to him. I think he was never jealous of what Protheus had but he saw Protheus as a bigger man than he himself is. I think he just doubt himself because he didn't believe he could be ever more than just a thief, even after Eris's game he said that he just tried to pretend something he is not capable of... but he is. He came back for Protheus, he came back to his friend and his old self.

Marina spoke Sinbad’s name, & he listened to her: “Thank you for coming after me.” He replies “Well, y-you’re welcome.” They talk about their dreams of sailing the sea, and what they always wanted. He let her take control of the wheel for a moment.

Wendy: It’s okay, Dipper. You saved me
(Dipper smiled)
Dipper: You know, I've traveled the world, seen things no other man has seen, but nothing, nothing compares to the open sea.
Wendy: And is this what you always wanted?
Dipper: Not really. When we were young, Perry and I used to talk about joining the Royal Navy and serving Syracuse side by side. But as we got older, our lives began to change. He's a prince, and I'm well. I was never jealous of him, though, until one morning, a ship came into harbor, a ship with his future on it. It was the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen.
Wendy: What was on the ship?
Dipper: You. Perry met you at the dock. I jumped on the first outbound ship and never looked back. Until now.
[they both grab hands, then putting a hand on Dipper]
