The thing is she wouldn't be the same person had she not gone to America and met Tony. Jim likes the version of her that she had become, and that's only because she fell in love with Tony and flourished.

She loved Tony. She LIKED Jim. After all, he was a decent person who treated her well. but so was Tony. I felt bad for Jim, though. He didn't know what he was getting himself into.

this is a great scene he clearly loves her but she does not love him.

I must say, Jim would have been my cup of tea. Witty Irishman with a gorgeous accent and stunning eyes, who also happens to be an entirely civilized and kind person. I mean, I liked Tony, but to be honest I thought Jim was more on her level of intelligence and definitely physically complimented her better. Just how I felt when I saw the movie😊 stunning production

Ugh, I always forget she just got married to Tony when she went back to Ireland to visit her mom. This just shows a good and satisfying life she could’ve had if she stayed in Ireland with Jim. But the life with Tony in America offers just so much more, both career and love wise. I can’t say I felt an overwhelming love on her part for Tony, but he sure loves her.

Growing up means finding your own. It's not just about where but also with whom. Eilis found herself in America and with Tony. Jim was only a possibility and a question. I like that Eilis matured and made her own decision that America and Tony is where she belongs.

while these are 2 great actors there is no chemistry between them not like what she has with emory. Nicely acted scene though.

Tony was sweet and all but I prefer Jim. Something about that gentlemen-like charms.

Eilis put it in a nutshell, " I wish things had been like this here before I left, now I have a job.... and a".... she would have been content to stay in Ireland had she had a half decent job and a boyfriend but like many at that time there was no work little prospect of bettering yourself even to the level of a shop owners wife. When she went to America she experienced a better life and opportunities and probably would never have gone back except for the death of her sister. Jim was the dependable easy-going husband that she would have happily settled with pre NY, post NY and the life that she could see unfolding in front of her offer so much more and that meeting with nasty Mrs Kelly snapped her back into reality, she couldn't ever see herself settling for small town Ireland again with the nosy neighbours and spitefulness .... that's why she went back to follow her dream with Tony.

In the book, which i finished just recently, Eilis surely led Jim on. She has all these emotions mixed up; torn between returning to NY or staying in Enniscorthy. I don’t wanna be in her shoes in part four of the book but i understand her decisions. I also find it funny that Eilis is such a procastinator. 😅 I love both the book and the film. Same amount of tears. 😢

I love the music in this very moving scene. What is it called?

I really wish she ended up with Jim instead of the other guy. I mean Tony was sweet and all, but some reason I just didn’t really care for him. But I guess they wanted to take the more moral route for the story, she already married Tony so it would be shitty if she ran out on him.

If she had not been married before coming back to would be perfect. Jim is a lot better than Tony. And, she has a mother too in her hometown. I can't imagine having to leave my mom like that to a far far away country.

like if you wanted her to get with him
