Meditation is not running away from life. Meditation is the training to tread life with awareness. Knowledge, gratitude, love, happiness and peace are the natural results of this aware living.

Rick, thanks for BATGAP, over 300 interviews and still ticking away. Great service

Another very good interview - Rick gave ample time, space and freedom to the speaker and allowed him to express himself freely.

Thank you both Rick & Loch for this engaging, helpful discussion! As a scientist and esotericist who navigated this stuff without a spiritual framework, I really love the careful approach your discussion reveals of awareness of awakening (rather than glorification). One of my favorite parts begins with the challenge of the "parental teacher, child student" (~1:32:00) point of ease.

It is quite interesting to note that many teachers of “dropping the ego”, “dropping the mini me”, “dropping the identification” are very keen on “my” royalty, “my” revenue, “my” book and “my” donation, “my” fee, “my” money. I wonder how this dynamics truly works.

At 2:37 right now. Right away: if this guy is being asked to teach mahaamudraa by Mingyur Rinpoche, even if just the sutra version, we are into serious stuff. At 20:10 right now, and I think I can already tell this is going to be a new one among my favorites. Right now after 1:14:26 I very much like the little tool he is offering in the minutes that follow this. Reminds me of some of the things I kept toying with myself.

I have just started watching(only up to the 11 min. mark) and he seems to know what he is talking about. And as usual Rick is demonstrating his repertoire of book learned spiritual metaphors (all second hand stuff and a substitute for personal experience). Rick is a good man and well intentioned. But when interviewing someone who is speaking from personal, direct experience it is better to speak as little as possible and listen as best as one can.

You did it again Rick.At a crucial moment you come in and say i know, i know, i know & on goes the conceptual disection.

*A +2.0 on a -3.0 to +3.0 scale.*

This is roughly as good as it gets without original cosmological contributions. Even the 2 hours are justfied, not repetitively filled with ideological propaganda as is so often the case. I have put out most of what I think is worth mentioning about this interview among my other comments on this page, so here I only add the remarkable, long expected and highly correct admission by this man that *realization, at least the initial stages of it, does not eliminate all suffering, only the secondary suffering feeding off the primary suffering: see **1:58:00** .* That has long been necessary, Loch, thanks for finally saying it. Otherwise what would be advantageous about parinirvana ? Now, after Rick's closing announcement, I am *very much looking forward to the interview with Joan Anderson Ross which sounds like a return to the original idea behind batgap*, hooray !

Is there any way I can directly reach Loch? Maybe email or something? I have a few questions I would like to ask.

Much deeper than ...the “problem solver”... ...is the “interpreter”... ...one that sees a “problems” - one that sees “good and bad”, “what should and shouldn’t happen”.

This interpreter is what attempts to "understand". It understands by "dividing" because without dividing you can't focus. It needs to focus on one thing at a time. Without division, no mental understanding is possible. The first such division is the division between me and the other.

When this interpreter is allowed to rest, the division starts ceasing and a very different kind of clarity - a very different kind of UNITY - a very different “all ONE” emerges.

When you encounter this UNITY for the first time - it would appear - all too familiar - yet, all complete new and totally Unknown. The green wouldn't be green. The blue wouldn’t be blue. It would be all YOU. Consciousness.

The lessons learned in the quiet, calm garden of home under parental supervision don’t always work accurately in a hostile battlefield.

The human social life can be quite messy. Many spiritual teachers remove themselves from this messiness and because of this, their teachings becomes akin to a person who spend all his time in a AC room teaching cleanliness to a farmer who works everyday in dirt and mud.

~ One thing I would like to point out is ~ Our awareness contracts and expands ~It's not something that stays expanded ~ When a person awakens ~ They start to look at life ~ From a new expanded perspective ~ One that allows them ~ To see the universe ~ In a whole new way ~ This type of awakening does not last long ~ Because our perspective also contract and expands ~ It expands into a universal perspective ~ Then it contracts into a self centered egocentric perspective ~ But unlike awareness ~ Your mind can be trained ~ To remain in this expanded perspective ~ This is done by surrendering your ego perspective and its false perception of reality ~

The simplest description of my awakening was that - the SPACE became alive for me. I became SPACE. SPACE was me. And, what was externally known as "me" - "the body" - became something like an armor, a dress, a vehicle, a robot that I could operate. I became bodiless, formless, conscious ghost that could control a biological robot. It took a while getting used to.
