🦊 In this GCSE Physics video, we explain that fossil fuels, such as oil, coal, and natural gas, are formed from the remains of ancient organisms compressed over millions of years and contain significant chemical energy. When burned, fossil fuels release thermal energy that is used to generate steam, spin turbines, and produce electricity. While fossil fuels are energy-dense and reliable, they are non-renewable, deplete quickly, and contribute to greenhouse gas emissions, which have environmental impacts.
