Planning on watching a 40th Anniversary re-release of this movie at the cinema for the first time (seen it a bunch of times on physical media) next weekend along with the 35th Anniversary of Back to the Future II on one of the largest non-PLF screens (21.95m / 72 feet wide) in the country. 😎

Great review, can't wait to see this in 4k - my favorite Nightmare, but New Nightmare is a close second... hoping to get that and the reset of the series in 4k someday!

The last time I owned this films was on VHS, so glad to now have the 4K in my collection. Freddie is the Don for me as he was the first, over Michael or Jason. I’m only now starting to watch the Friday the 13th films.

Great review, thank you! Totally agree re Robert Englund as Freddie, right up there with Doug Bradley as Pinhead in the Hellraiser series imho, just iconic horror roles being excellently portrayed :)

Nice review, this film is neck and neck with The Dream Warriors as the best in the series for me. I’m sadly still waiting for my steelbook to arrive😩. But overall I’m looking forward to snagging this up regardless of the packaging.

Great film obviously but I wasn't blown away with the picture quality, especially like you said when compared to VS releases (or Arrow/Second Sight etc.) studios like their DNR and don't always have the best encoding, that said it's still a decent release and I really like the cover art, which is not always the case with WB (the standard edition anyway, not the SB). I'm hoping for a 4K box set next year or at least a Dream Warriors 4K.

Most likely they will release Nightmare on elm street in 4K with Dolby vision and include blu ray with new scan either box set or stand alone...I don’t get why they didn’t include Dolby Vision with the physical disc..4K digital of Nightmare on elm street is in Dolby vision..Here’s example..when the movie CliffHanger (Sony) came out on physical disc it was HDR now they released it with the same movie with Dolby Vision on physical disc…another example Shaun of the dead, (Focus Picture) when that first came out it was HDR and now they releasing it on 4K with Dolby Vision this year..I understand that’s 2 different companies but still it’s annoying that us as collectors we don’t get the best format from day 1 instead the company’s want us the collectors to double dip later down the line..
