OpenFIRE Launch Trailer - The Ultimate (Open) Light Gun System
Показать описание
Open pews.
OpenFIRE is a passion project created by Team OpenFIRE: a collective of lads from various odds and ends of the web and world at large, who all wanted to create the best Open Source Light Gun system on the market. ThatOneSeong (that's me!) architected most of the firmware and everything around the desktop app, with new perspective-correcting tracking code by Samuel Ballantyne (Samco), and QA and contributions from other creators both on the software and hardware end.

OpenFIRE is not just a one-off plastic peripheral, but an entire ecosystem consisting of:
- The OpenFIRE Firmware, made in C++ targeting many RP2040-based microcontrollers, utilizing hardware features such as its dual cores and taking advantage of its abundance and low cost to make the most flexible system; it supports both its own double lightbar IR arrangement as well as diamond layouts used by prior systems, as well as full MAMEHOOKER serial control support, meaning OpenFIRE can be a drop-in replacement and coexist with previous DIY Arduino light gun systems! It also brings support for NeoPixel lighting, full analog stick input, up to two pedals, and display for exclusive user interface and game feedback. All of this, while having an easy, two-step onboarding experience that takes less than two minutes from flashing to shooting with line-of-sight accuracy.
- The OpenFIRE App, made in C++ & Qt and available on both Linux and Windows, designed to make setting up and configuring every aspect of the board as simple and intuitive as possible, while offering extensive customization for aspects such as force feedback, lighting, and pin/button connection layout.
- Carrier boards and new boards, designed from the ground up with OpenFIRE in mind, allowing easy drop-in conversion of virtually any preexisting console or arcade light gun - all of this, while still maintaining backwards compatibility with existing boards from other systems, whenever possible.
- 3D Printable guns shells designed to take advantage of some of OpenFIRE's exclusive features, such as display and advanced lighting support.
While this marks the formal launch of the OpenFIRE system, this is only the beginning--as it's not just about making OpenFIRE powerful, but accessible to as many people as possible, we want to be able to provide pre-built light guns that anyone can simply buy (for reasonable prices!), plug in, and get up and running in less than a minute! We also are making sure to support platforms like the MiSTer whenever possible, as well as possible future support for other (possibly vintage) systems - with the power of Open Source and the flexibility of the RP2040, the only limits are the imagination.
