If cruise lines were to require fit to cruise from the public, it would be fitting for their employees to be checked every week as well.

As a senior, I think a check up before an extensive vacation just makes, sense. A young family who is operating on a tight budget might find getting the entire family checked rather restrictive. Everyone be well.

Since both my husband and daughter are physicians, l thought to shoot them an email and ask for their opinion. Daughter hasn't responded as of yet, but Husband wrote that he thinks it a good idea but for a physician to determine if your fit to travel, it requires a physical examination if you haven't had one in the past year. Your doctor may order several laboratory tests, including blood tests called chemistry panel that can indicate anything regarding your kidneys, blood chemistry, liver and immune system. Vitals would be check including weight, heart rate and blood pressure. Also screening for diabetics and cholesterol. He feels that it would be prudent to go see your doctor before making any decisions to book a cruise.
Good topic today Tony!

I will be a long time before I cruise again. I think cruising will never be the same again.

The doctor will ask you how you feel, look you over, and approve you for the cruise. Doctors can’t predict the future. Beware of “security theater.”

I'd totally be all in for whatever hoops I gotta jump through; just get me back to cruising!! That etch-a-sketch drawing was AMAZING!! Such talent in this community!! If we cannot go back to cruising, then what?!!! I'm just gonna keep hoping all this calms down. Call me a dreamer!

I’m an old guy, I don’t have a problem having my doctor sign off on it.

Wouldn’t have a problem being tested for a cruise, but the rationale is equally relevant for any flight...

I'd prefer what you said at the end. All cruises leave later like 7p/8P AND EVERYONE has to get tested and wait for results before the can board.

Getting a doctor’s note does not guarantee that you won’t get sick while cruising. Many doctors won’t do letters like this b/c of liability issues. Getting tested wouldn’t bother me however, unless the cruise lines do it at the port there is no guarantee that someone hasn’t gotten infected between the time you get the test and boarding.

I ❤️ cruising! Yes, I am willing to be tested in order to be allowed to go again.

I think that cruising will change forever. I would have no problem with a doctor's note. I also think that change applies to the cruise lines. No more inside cabins, a maximum of 2 people in each cabin, no self service in the buffet and mandatory travel insurance with cruise coverage. The below decks crew provided with more fresh air time in port and at sea as many of these crew don't see daylight for many days and even weeks. Medical facilities should be better equipped to deal with a greater number of passengers. 1doctor and 2 nurses is not sufficient for a vessel carrying 6000 guests and crew. Cruising needs to change because we expect to pay with our $$$ not our lives.

I am all for the cruise lines implementing screenings, select times for checking in and all. I would rather the cruise lines conduct the "fit to cruise" screening the day of boarding because things can change from when you see your health care provider and your board the ship. For example, we live in Alaska and due to travel times, we usually spend a week or more in the lower 48 before we board the ship. If we are cruising out of Florida - we might spend a week in Orlando. If I have to see my doctor before I leave home - I could get sick while wandering around Disneyworld, so the letter would be bunk.

I think it's a good idea. Too many cruisers board ships with conditions which result in a medical evacuation. And I'm not talking about covi. No reason why a fit to cruise note can't be provided. CVS and Walgreens which have the minute clinics should be able to provide these, as well as an antibody test for covi...

I enjoy cruising a lot. But, I enjoy my freedom and privacy even more. I would give up cruising just like I gave up flying!

I would still go cruising if I had to have a doctor's note. Although, I'm one of those people who visits my PCP regularly. I love cruising, it's the best vacation and i'll never voluntarily give it up.

I’m a nurse. Easily could be done at a public health clinic either at your home or the evening before embarking at the port. Basically it would be a rapid viral test, and potentially heart rate and blood pressure test. None of those are expensive or invasive really. Diabetic cruisers might need to submit an A1C from the last 90 days. No big deal really and it would be good for people who don’t regularly see the doctor. The cruise could get a bulk rate ($20 per head) and roll it into the cruise rate. It would save them money too, prevent epidemics on board ship. If they could come out with a rapid test for norovirus? That would be a huge win too, for everyone.

If one doctor doesn't want to issue you a note, you just go to the next if that one also...move on to the next....till you get your letter of fit to cruise

Have to see my doctor every 4 months...for the rest of my life...or no refills on my medication (insulin, etc.) ...or I die... So I'm OK with it. The new rapid tests coming out soon will mean a doctor's note will probably not be required. But we'll see. I'm sure liability lawyers and insurance companies will get involved in the decision making. Thanks, Tony.

Ha you're a typical man when it comes to the doctor! I like the idea of testing at embarkation and I would definitely do that. They're not kicking me out of cruise life but I am concerned about what will new cruise life look like? I heard someone say Carnival will place less deck chairs around the pool. oooh kay...so where will those people go? Are they going to enforce social distancing once on the ship? Make us sit every other seat in the theater? I'd much rather take a test that says I'm healthy enough fraternize with other folks than to be made an inmate on a prison ship.
