As an African American male vaseline is a staple in most households it’s gives your skin serious glow time

As a black woman I was taught to do this by my great grandma aka big momma 🤗. How sweet she was slugging in her day all the way to her last days she was 97 and the sweetest, elegant, beautiful lady I’ve ever met. 🙏🏾♥️

I didn’t know I was slugging, but a faceful of aquaphor every night was the only thing that kept my skin intact during chemo!

20 years ago one of my LTC patients used only Ivory soap and Vaseline. She slathered Vaseline on her face every night. I was always amazed at her skin, it was flawless until the end of her 105 year life

My 91 yo mother has done this for my entire life…and probably most of her life. It was a minimal expense moisturizer treatment shared with her via her mother…think Depression Era. The idea is to hold moisture in the skin. So easy…clean the skin and while it is still damp with clear, clean water…pat on Vaseline. Her skin still holds a vibrance and mistaken for someone 10 to 15 years younger. I have used this technique and have been complemented on my complexion for all of my adult life

It’s so funny how slugging has become this popular thing. I’ve been doing it for years out of desperation for relief from eczema. It works so well though. Aquaphor is my favourite for slugging.

Mom used to slather our faces with Vaseline before going out to play in the winter snow. I assume it helped keep us from getting wind burn, but it felt horrible. Good times!

I've used Vaseline since I was a teenager. I have nothing but praise for it.

Well, heck, I’ve been slugging all this time and I didn’t even know it was a “thing”! I started several months ago because at 68, the skin on my face (and neck) is much drier than it used to be. I started nightly use of Aquaphor ointment for its healing properties and then began using Ponds dry skin cream underneath it as a humectant. The Ponds product feels great on my skin, so I figured I’d “seal it in” with a layer of Aquaphor. So I guess I stumbled onto something right just by intuition. That happens sometimes. 😂 Thanks, docs, for the validation!

Think a lot of us were slugging for decades before it had a name. As a person with dermatitis, I’ve used Vaseline to seal in moisture for years. Pediatricians used to tell moms to use a medicated cream on baby’s butt for diaper rash, then a thin coating of Vaseline to keep the cream from rubbing off on the diaper. When the rash was gone, we’d seal baby’s butt with Vaseline at nighttime to prevent diaper rash from coming back. It worked.

Aquaphor Healing ointment beats the fanciest and most expensive lip balms/chapsticks you can find hands down. I will never not leave without it plus it’s sooo cheap, the whole tub lasts you forever!!

Excellent patient teaching Docs. Slugged last night with Vaseline. For me, I never slug over any "actives." Slugging nights are all about hydration and moisture.

I love when Dr. Shah talks about his sensitive eyelids because I have them too since it's the place where I get the most atopic dermatitis

Petrolatum is used in sulphur based products for scabies. The pharmacists said it’s used to keep the mites immobile. Demodex mites are a contributor to skin issues. I think they cause pretty much ALL skin issues. So petrolatum will immobilize them when they are the busiest and reproducing at night. This is most likely the biggest contributor to improving skin conditions.

Vaseline literally saved my skin from a chemical burn. I didn't know I was slugging to heal it but it fixed me up in no time - I noticed a bonus was that by slugging my wrinkles actually filled in everywhere and people started commenting that I looked younger.

I now have an unnecessary amount of Vaseline tubs stocked up around my house for.... The end of times 😂

Dealing with New York City winters I always have a problem with dry skin and lack of hydration. Love getting tips from my favorite doctors ☺️💜

I'm so glad this video came up on my recommended list... I just started (almost 2 weeks) "mixing" my retinol while slugging. Had slight burning, but didnt think much of it initially. Won't be doing that anymore!

I use CeraVe ointment put their moisturizer cream on underneath every night. I've been doing this for a couple of years (thanks to YouTube for getting me through the pandemic). At 65 my skin hasn't looked this good for 30 years!

i’ve used either vaseline or aquaphor my whole life and i’ve gotta say, I just always prefer vaseline. super cheap and does exactly what I want it to. i also find it easier to apply than aquaphor.

I make my own using organic ingredients: beeswax, Shea butter, cacao butter, vegetable based glycerin and coconut oil. A former coworker uses it as an ointment to prevent diaper rash on her infants.
