A few more tips! 👇

Seed Starting Mix:
My go-to mix:
-1 part coco coir
-1 part vermiculite
-1 part perlite
-½ part compost or worm castings
-½ part finely screened garden soil (optional)

Airflow:
💨 A small fan near your seedlings helps prevent mold and disease.💨 It also strengthens plants by mimicking outdoor wind, preparing them for transplanting.

Temperature:
🌡 Most seedlings thrive at 65-75°F.🌡 Heat mats help maintain the ideal soil temperature, but if you don’t have one, try placing trays near a heating vent or radiator.

Light:
💡 Seedlings need 12-16 hours of light per day—don’t forget to turn them off at night!💡 Keep grow lights 2-4 inches above the seedlings to prevent legginess.💡 I aim for 5,000 lumens per light

Label, Label, Label:
🗒️Mark your seeds RIGHT AWAY! Ask me how I learned. 😅

Supplies:
🛒 Shop local when possible—many garden centers now carry seed-starting supplies.🛒 Looking for links? I’ve added my favorite seed-starting supplies in my storefront (link in bio)!

Hardening Off:
🌱 Don’t skip this step! Gradually introduce seedlings to the outdoors for about a week before transplanting.🌱 Start with 1 hour in a shaded area, then increase exposure each day.

Now let’s get growing! Make sure to follow along for gardening tips all season long! 🌿👋

i’m fairly new to gardening and when i first started i thought a heat mat was good for majority of seeds but i quickly found out i was wrong! while it has helped a ton, it has also negatively impacted some of my seeds. for new gardeners my advice is don’t assume it can be placed on heat mat! don’t place delphinium, larkspur, or lupine on heat mat! and vegetables that do well in the fall probably don’t need a heat mat either!

I got a great kit from Amazon, it has trays, with plastic domes and lights powered by usb that clip onto the plastic. Very cheap too!
But I never used to use light or heat, just the ordinary heat from the house and they were fine. It’s nice to have but not essential, growing up we grew them in a greenhouse with a paraffin heater

When I first started gardening, my horrible mistake was I would when I mix the soil and water them. It be pouring up water and I plant it in my seeds rotted and now they but now I learned that they do not need that and they need a lot more sun than that water

Why do you wait until the seeds pop to use the light? 🧐 couldn't you use the light from when you first plant the seeds? Thank you for your time

You don’t need to cover very fine seeds with any compost 😁
