MORE ABOUT ME

I'm Anne of All Trades. In NASHVILLE, I have a woodworking, blacksmithing and fabrication shop, a selection of furry friends, and an organic farm. Whether you've got the knowledge, tools, time or space to do the things you've always wanted to do, everything is "figureoutable."

I became "Anne of All Trades" out of necessity. With no background in farming or making things, I wanted to learn to raise my own food, fix things when they break and build the things I need.

12 years ago I got my first pet, planted my first seed and picked up my first tool.

My goal is to learn and share traditional techniques and skills while showing my peers how to get from where they are to where they want to go, how to do the things they are passionate about, and what can be done TODAY to engage their own community and grow deep roots.

Whether it's carving spoons, making my own hand tools, restoring my antique truck or growing heirloom tomatoes, the farm and workshop definitely keep me busy and support - whether financially through Patreon, through shopping my affiliate links, through buying merchandise, plans or project videos, or even just liking, commenting, and sharing my content with others helps me GREATLY to keep producing quality content to share.

Planting seeds is one of the greatest acts of faith. I have farmed for years, and every year, I find myself hoping they all come up, wondering if they will.

December, I put down a strip of tp, wet it, sprinkle with carrots seeds, another strip of tp, spritz it, and leaves it. Snow keeps it wet so when the weather warms up, they sprout.

I mix my tiniest seed with a little flour. Be sure to stir thoroughly. Then broadcast my mixture over my planting bed or row. This helps me in 3 ways. 1, it helps keeping me from over sowing. I’m really prone to plant too thick. 2, I can see exactly where I put my seeds. 3 the little bit of flour that is there soaks up water easily so it helps moisten my seeds quickly to help germinate. The flour dissolves into soil in a day or two and adds a tiny bit of organic material to soil so it is not harmful to plant or soil. Note don’t use flour that has salt in it.

My favorite thing to do is to run out on a rainy day and scatter seeds. The rain ends up burying them the right amount, and the soil is nice and moist. If it works for nature to do it like that, then it works for me. The birds get some but The right seeds germinate in the right spot. The ones that don't germinate sometimes do the next year.

I think it's best to remember how nature does it .... most of the time the seeds are just dropped on the ground, only a little covered by past season dried foliage Also, in nature the germination speed varies on purpose ... if an "eater" comes along and chomps it all, there are more sprouts coming after the culprit moves on. Only by seed company management are they bred to germinate all at once for human convenience. Really enjoyed this video, thanks.

😅 I just really love you so much! Im 52, and I can honestly say that YOU have taught me the most about gardening! You are extremely REAL! I honestly feel like I'm watching a friend. You are an extremely knowledgeable individual, and you are a great teacher! I'm in Western Maine. There are several feet of snow on the ground.... "Poor man's fertilizer." Ugh, I've had enough already!!! Just scattered my celery and onion seeds on see-through trays of potting soil. It's going to be "a few" months before anything is going on or in the ground for me 😢 best mental health medicine out there.... I'm right with you! I think you are an absolute fabulous person, Anne! I love your videos! I love your homestead! My ADHD showing.... anyways. Keep making videos, etc! I'll keep sharing them!!!

If anyone thought for a second how plants disperse seeds, it makes sense that they generally wouldn't be planted deep in the earth. Especially when you take the germination stages into consideration. The plant basically plants itself.

Nature is our greatest teacher.

I'm pretty dumb. I just break up the ground with a garden hoe and throw the seeds all over. For some reason it works and I end up having to share with neighbors and pantries.

I’m 87 & disabled so I can’t do my 1/4 acer garden anymore! However, I had a fellow dump cedar chips next to my raised beds and another friend gave me large pots for the other side of my rose bush! He’s putting up a wrought iron fence over those for me so I’m sooo looking forward to spring and seeing my climbing beans 🫘 and the yams 🍠 growing in my cedar mound and the rest of my raised beds! Also the accidental cantaloupes 🍈 I grew year b4 last! Last year was too cool here in WA State! The year b4 the fellas threw their cantaloupe 🍈 seeds in my compost and they planted themselves too late! I got 6 but they didn’t ripen soon enough b4 our first frost! I ate crunchy anyway!

Your video was great. I also suffered with depression for years as well and two years ago did a Tapping treatment for 39 days (not including weekends) with a small disk against my head which was hooked to a computer for 20 minutes of light tapping. It not only took care of my depression but it also completely got rid of migraines which I had suffered with for over 62 years. I haven’t even had a small headache for a year plus. Before that I never went even a whole week without a migraine without medication. People need to talk about mental illness. Thank you for speaking of your experiences with it as well. Thanks for your knowledge too.

I live in northern Sweden, I mostly plant seeds in the soil in May, the seeds that are to be sown directly. We have three months of summer, with the sun never setting and 6 months of winter, where the sun never rises, but it is light for about 3 hours. My house is flooded with grow lights and plants. I plant tomatoes, peppers and chilies in December/January, because otherwise they never have time to bear fruit before autumn and winter come. If my seeds don't take root, I start stirring the soil in my pots, because then I know that the seeds have ended up too deep, or that the soil is too compact. If I am unsure whether it will freeze or if there will be a night with frost, I always put on a fiber cloth after I have sown my seeds outdoors and it has worked really well.. ❤️❤️❤️ Love your vlogs!

I just wanted to say Thank you! Because of you staying 1 week in bed with fever wasn't as hard as it would have been without you. Now, that I may finally be in my Garden again, I have so many ideas how to improve our Garden. 😊 Thank you for all your advices and your kind and funny way of teaching them. Greetings from Germany Annett

Many years ago, I helped my parents plant carrots in their vegetable garden. They had done the whole, build little furrows and dig a little groove in the top of each for the seeds, etc. Of course me being the uncoordinated child that I was, spilled the carrot seeds all over the place. And I remember being surprised that we got a whole patch of carrots in between the furrows and everywhere else I spilled seeds. I wondered even then, if all you have to do is throw them on the ground why do we go through so much trouble?

Yes. I'm planting for the first time and I buried my seeds so deep they didn't get wet or anything. Trying again today. Set me back big time.
