Japanesepod101 is the best Japanese teaching program I've been able to find. Y'all are killing it! So informative. Most things just give you what separate words mean in a sentence, but they don't tell you why the Sentence is structured the way it is or how to build you own sentences. Japanesepod101 does just that!

Thank you very much Hiroko sensei. This finally settled the question for me. Tekureru = focus on the other person who is doing you a favor! (and you refer to the person using the particle GA) Temorau = focus on YOU who is receiving the favor/benefit from another person. Needless to say, it's more encouraged to use tekureru because it shows gratitude and politeness. Arigatou gozaimasu, karada ni ki wo tsukete ne~

The first sentence DOES NOT mean "My friend will cook dinner for me." That is a grammatical translation for the second sentence, but only a loose semantic translation for the first. THESE TWO FORMS DO NOT MEAN THE SAME THING. Overly-simplistic translation is a common and frustrating mistake made in beginner language instruction courses, which consistently leads to needless confusion.

Watashi wa tomodachi ni yūshoku o tsukutte morau. = I shall have my friend cook dinner (for me).

Tomodachi ga watashi ni yūshoku o tsukutte kureru. = My friend cooks/shall cook dinner (for me).

v-te kureru = DO (something) FOR (me)
v-te morau = HAVE (someone) DO (something) FOR (me), GET (s.o.) TO DO (sth) FOR (me)

I understood a small bit of what was written in hiragana. Still have a long way to go. Arigato gozaimasu sensei!

This one I found very useful. Thank you!

It's like "(to) borrow" and "(to) lend" in English, isn't it? In German we say "leihen" for both, there's the word "borgen" too though (it's not used very often).

Morau, kureru, and ageru were always the most confusing for me to grasp, and still are :/
