We do personal cyber security training as part of my job. It amazes me how exposed people make themselves.
Just a piece of advice.
Don't use your name on your voicemail message. Not only do the scammers have your phone number, they now have your name.

For the "Hi mum" scam, always call the person back on their original number. The fraudster will try to discourage this or say the number is out of order. They will often respond "your oldest child" when you ask "who is this?". I know it seems obvious although people do respond with "hi (child's name), giving the fraudster their child's name.

A while ago I was getting texts about a toll I hadn’t paid. There are no toll roads in Tasmania.

I took screen shots and attempted to load them onto the ASIC scam reporting form. I'm reasonably tech savvy, and it was impossible.

Where am I supposed to go to report these buggers????

Never open unsolicited emails, and never cooperate with unsolicited phone calls. Always verify using contact info you have on file and not from the email or phone call. Never invest money with someone you really don't know. Keep yourself isolated when it comes to sending money or giving personal info. If you want to invest money visit a local brokerage or the bank you are dealing with. Never invest or send money to somewhere you have no idea about. Best to NOT trusting anything is your best defense.

This is why phone numbers are becoming bad technology. No one can answer their phones anymore because we never know who’s a scammer unless they’re saved in our phone.

It’s so weird. I get calls all the time that sound like I might need to take it but because it’s impossible to tell I have to just not answer.

You missed the hardware scam done by amd, intel and nvidia, especially on laptops. AMD started the trend of selling 1-3 generation old CPU's under the latest CPU naming convention, tricking people into buying older CPU's thinking they bought new ones. Intel followed suite. Nvidia, intel and AMD artificially limit their laptop parts for no reason other than greed. And they restrict more tuning access so you cannot make them run cooler and faster. OEM's also do this. Even phone OEM's don't allow you to install custom roms on your phone so you can extend its lifespan and still get updates. Its all just taking away control from you so these companies can rip you off

There's a lot more shady scams these companies run and I don't see anyone cover this. Infact, its so underhanded that techtubers and right to repair channels like louis rossmann don't even understand this restriction to your control over your own device. And thus they defend or ignore this issue. Hope you ACTUALLY cover this. Because nobody else is doing it. And its a very serious issue.

Regarding phishing scams related to bank or crypto fraud, anytime you could get notifications that require action like clicking on a link and logging in your bank info to some copycat phishing site or receiving a call that requires an SMS passcode…the best action you can do is inaction. There is a much larger chance it is an attempt to scam you instead of your account genuinely being vulnerable.

Every single scammer should be jailed for life if they get caught. To make a deterrent for others. It has to be one of the most disgusting crimes on earth.

I'm curious how the bureau collecting the scamming statistics. In particular, I wonder if there is a tendency for Gen Z to not report they've been scammed (either because they're not sure who to report it to or din't want to admit they've been scammed).

1 minute 25 second into this video I got another scam call. This has got to end. I can’t not answer my phone as business owner as it could be a customer. This is enough to drive me completely insane.
