I was expecting a "Spend it on LTT Store instead" at the end lol

“THESE CABLES ARE SO GOOD THEY TAKE BINARY AND ADD 2&3 INTO IT!”

How about audiophile cables where the copper is said to be mined from underneath a volcano to simulate high quality vibrations.

I bought a 48Gbit/s HDMI cable only to realize my 120Hz TV isn't actually 120Hz, it's 60Hz with optional internal interpolation. Infuriating.

Wow, he actually didn't drop an ltt store merch recommendation for once

i got a 50 foot HDMI 2.1 active optical cable off amazon for $50 to run through my wall and honestly i felt like that was reasonably priced for a 50 foot cable.. works like a champ too

you need a "ok" one.. there was a LOT of problems with the DP cable that was shipped with the samsung 4k monitor's. so using 20$ on a good one that actually work is well worth the money ;)

My favorite is the audiophile industry. Selling “oxygen free copper” USB cables that go to the DAC, or high end balanced cables after the amp. Data either works or it doesn’t. The whole point of a 300ohm balanced headphone is so the cable isn’t a quality factor. Spend your money on the phono cables, especially if they’re not balanced. That’s where interference will happen.

Just to add a random tidbit, modern cables and even board connectors like PCI-E use a scheme called "differential signaling", where you use two wires to send the zeroes and ones. but instead of sending voltage for 1, no voltage for 0, one wire is sent positive voltage and the other sends negative voltage, and then they flip when its to send a one.
Detecting voltage flips between cables is much more reliable and resistant to noise than relying on the strength of the signal etc.. so we can have for example PCI-E risers that can go across several meters and all the bandwidth etc..

As an impulse buyer of accessories for my electronics, i confirm this.

Thing is this isn’t just snake oil. When they mislead customers with lies like that it is illegal.

You need to make a similar video for Hi-Fi enthusiasts. Some of them have paid more for the cables than the speakers...

But Linus, what about the chackra alignment and astrological sign of the cables? I need to have cables born in the same month I was for optimal retrograde resonance.

I'd argue usb phone cables are a "get what you pay for" deal. Charge speeds and data rate can vary wildly from a cable from a reliable brand than a cable you can get in the bargain bin at the dollar store. You can overpay, don't get me wrong, but underpaying is worse on phone cables. Unshielded, hazardous to use, and slow on the charge.

Some phones will actually lose charge if the cable can't charge it fast enough.

Ex-Best Buy Employee here, we were taught through Audio Quest representative that it wasn't the fact of making the 0s and 1s more accurate. It was the shielding and conductivity of the wires or materials inside inside which isolate and shield better from interference. Less interference = better signal = higher quality.

Im so impressed, this was 60 seconds but it felt like a 5 minute video worth of information tbh

Damn when they said techquickie they meant it.

I agree with the second part as I will say higher quality sometimes does matter. I had a cheap brand of USB C Cables I used to charge. Using them in my car for android auto they would wear out and if I slightly moved my phone it would disconnect from my car. I bought a slightly more expensive cable and after a year without issues, I was sold on that if am doing data transfer to not cheap out.

Fun Fact: In Mass Effect 2, a salarian named Marab, a merchant on the citadel says "You'd be surprised by how many people believe that light travels faster on more expensive fiber optic cables".

Every techquickie video should be exclusive on YT Shorts. Love them.
