I'm an old man. All my life, Gillette has been regularly coming up with "miracle" innovations that transform the shaving experience, or so they say. I guess they maxed out on how many blades they could add so, now, we get the "exfoliating" bar. Sounded to me like more of the same from Gillette, and I'm a little ashamed of paying any attention at all. I guess that they bank on the fact that all men go through periods when they get particularly dissatisfied with their shaving experience, which is unnatural and never quite what we wished for. Really appreciate this fair and trustworthy evaluation.

I used this razor yesterday and like you i didn’t find what is so special about it.
I will keep and use my old DE razor and the Mach3 turbo.
I fined both of them much much better.
Thank you for the review.

I've been using DE razors and creams until recently I was given this razor as a gift. It really changed my thoughts - could get a totally smooth and comfortable shave in just a few minutes. On top, the foam had a nice aroma and was not harsh on my skin at all. And the final benefit was that a single blade lasted over a month for me (15 shaves) before I felt it had to be replaced. This is the first 'modern' razor I have really appreciated since the original Mach 3. You can find the Gllette Labs stuff on special offer in most shops here, so it helps to shop around for sure!

Just bought the new one. I've used Gillette products all my life. The marketing on the exfoliating is top notch. I fell for it. I know I'm only out 40 bks because I bought everything but I prefer the last Gen Fusion. Mad props to Gillette you fooled me into purchasing but the Fusion is better. Shave cream, blades, etc...

Thank you for this review as I shave my head constantly and was thinking about switching from the Gillette fusion power to this here. However I live on a very tight fixed income so thank you for this review as it shows that there really is no point in wasting the money for about the same shave. God bless and thank you once again.

Gillette razors have always been expensive, that’s where they make the money is on the refills

I own this razor for 4 years.. and I do feel I do get a « slightly » closer shave. I found an alternative on Amazon for the replacement blades that cost much less and do about the same job. I do not recall the Amazon link but if I find I will post it.

I just ordered the Gillette labs razor and waiting for it to arrive to try it out. I've used the dollar shave club razors for years but want to try something new to see if the Gillette labs will be my go to from now on or if it isn't my go to

I agree that the exfoliating bar is a gimmick and just a weird claim as shaving itself is already exfoliating, therefore the brand is just doing the claim but in a sneaky way.
Shaving is a physical exfoliation, there is really no point with that exo. bar.
Thus, this razor is just for the luxury experience. Which is nothing wrong with that at all.
Also great video. You do know what you are talking about, as one use does not determine its capability at all and that you did your research to an extent. It was enjoyable to watch!! 👍👍

I saw this razor on a deal at Amazon for 35$ CAD including travel case, the razor (well... if you don't get it there is a problem lol) and 3 cartridges. I've been a longtime user of the Gillette Flexball technology razors. However, my latest blades (ProGlide SkinGuard) weren't what I was expecting. Sure it's a great shaving experience for sensitive skin (this is what they are aimed at), but in the end the result is pretty disappointing from my standpoint.

So, I knew I would need to buy my good old beloved cartridges again (ProShield). At a retail price of 41.75$ CAD for 8 refills of the ProShield, or 45$ CAD for the same quantity of ProShield Chill refills, or going with a handle and 5 refills for 30$ CAD, I felt I could go and try for the Exfoliating bar gimmick for 35$ CAD. If it's a failure, I'll just to back to my previous roots. If it's a success, then I'll have a new habit.

I'm really rooting for ultra close shaving (shaving my face only), in which the Philips OneBlade and Proglide Skinguard aren't giving the kind of shave I want. They even made me reduce my shaving habits because of how bad of a shaving experience they were giving: OneBlade gives some kind of itchy feeling, while the SkinGuard doesn't shave close enough to my liking. I even once had tried the Dollar Shave Club, but I had to leave them because of how often I was getting my face cut because of their way too sharp blades.

I'm supposed to get the exfoliating razor the day after tomorrow. I'm really curious about how my experience will be with that razor compared to the previous blades I was using.

Gillette ProGlide $2.19 Costco ($34.99 for 16, on sale) ...bought some in 2019 & 2020 (2.49 in May 2022)
Gillette Labs $3.94 Amazon ($35.82 for 9) ...best price I could see today on Amazon

I haven't decided if I want to buy the Gillette Labs razor yet.
I like the 2 lubricating strips on the ProGlide Shield, but Costco offers such a good price on the basic ProGlide cartridges, that I went cheap.

My cartidges last 4-8+ weeks...longer if I clean the blades better (under stronger water), less if I'm lazy. I think shaving cream pits/eats-into the metal.
In bad cases, maybe only 2 weeks.
I'm Chinese, so my hair might be thinner than some other people.

Hi sir. I wanted to know which one is better? The heated version or the simple version?

bought this at a Ralphs (I'm in California), and they have been a game changer.

If im not mistaken, the exfoliating part is claimable by warranty. So you dont have to replace the handle, tho i agree the replacements are pricey.

My question is does it charge or no charge when you use it

My shaving really changed after this product. I use the same shaving gel and after shave gel. I dont have a beard only shave whole face every 2 days. It shaves much better then all Gillette razors before, it is heavy and slips great and it never geve me any small blood.
