In the beginning of 2010, the Playing For Change crew began work on a new Song Around the World, John Lennon's "Imagine." It has been an amazing year of production, taking the crew from the favelas of Brazil to the shrines of southern India, from villages in Nepal to the glittering urban landscape of Tokyo and New York, and beyond.

This song is the Playing For Change Foundation's gift to the world. The Playing For Change Foundation feels honored to have the blessing and generous support of Yoko Ono as music lovers around the world join together to launch the Power to the People campaign. The campaign seeks to advance John Lennon's vision of peace by engaging artists and audiences to contribute to music education programs worldwide. Proceeds raised will help build music schools, support teachers and music programs, purchase instruments, and connect schools for cross-cultural learning and conflict resolution across borders. Music IS the power: Power to the People.

Playing For Change (PFC) is a movement created to inspire and connect the world through music, born from the shared belief that music has the power to break down boundaries and overcome distances between people. The primary focus of PFC is to record and film musicians performing in their natural environments and combine their talents and cultural power in innovative videos called Songs Around The World. Creating these videos motivated PFC to form the Playing For Change Band—a tangible, traveling representation of its mission, featuring musicians met along their journey; and establish the Playing For Change Foundation—a separate 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to building music and art schools for children around the world. Through these efforts, Playing For Change aims to create hope and inspiration for the future of our planet.

I am fairly new watching the Playing for Change videos and I love every one of them.  But this one is astounding!  I have never seen one end the way this one did, with the actual artist included in the video.  The way they put John Lennon ending it made me tear up.  The entire video was beautiful and I imagine that this is what John envisioned... what he wished the world would be.  People reaching out to each other in fellowship, not in aggression.  I saw in an interview that he and Yoko faced racial issues because of their interracial marriage.  That is sad, because love knows no color, knows no ethnicity. We are the human race. Regardless of our skin tone, we all bleed red.  John seemed to be fighting against all the hate in the world.  He was a man on a mission.   I miss that man so much!

If we could live and work together like this, how beautiful the world would be

My Mom loved this song and the sentiments embodied therein. She was married to a white man who was a priest in the Episcopal church who served in the ghetto of Chicago. Throw me to the dogs for trying to get some traction, but my maw was wedded to the belief that all of humanity wants peace. All of humanity are beautiful. And we are. Love to all who read this and who never see this. Love!

It’s getting to the point that Playing For Change is the only thing I watch on You Tube many days. Not much else calls to me or feeds my soul in quite the same way. Thank you!

I wish I was rich, but I'm not. If I was, I would like to go the UN and put-up big screens, and a good sound system, and then I would play this song for the General Assembly. I think it would move them very deeply. Then I would introduce them to Playing for Change and tell them about the people that are making this video, and many other like it. I don't think it would really change the world, but it might be worth a try. But I'm too old, and I'm too poor, yet I know there are people in the world that could do it. It's my dream is that someday, someone will.

OK, this is how "Imagine" was meant to be played.

I love Imagine, such a wonderful song, this song has touched my heart so deeply since I was a tween. I know that some people don’t want to imagine there is no heaven, no religion too, but it resonated with me, as a young agnostic, I still have trouble imagining that there is a heaven and hell…but I hope and pray there is a heaven or afterlife, where we get a chance to reunite with family, friends and super important to me, my cats & dogs.

And again we pray for peace we wish for a better world and a day when people can come together realize that we have more in common than differences

When world events take an unusually bad turn for the worse (like current events in Ukraine) this is my go to song to assuage my feeling of hopelessness and hearing it played by artists around the world makes it especially resonant. We have to keep imagining a better world.

I had tears from the moment this video started! But allowing John and the arrangements to close out the song just added on feelings I can’t even describe. Maybe spmetijg along the lines of coming full circle? Maybe something like serving beautiful poetic Justice by doing what the song is about still many years later? Idk, but there is no word for it; but it’s absolutely perfect. Thank you 🙏
