Thank you again…both you and AnimalDocRea have been so helpful! I seriously was so confused trying to figure out who to listen to (so much conflicting info out there🤦‍♀️) and how to decide what dog food to get for our new dog until I came across your approaches…makes so much more sense in looking at the nutrient levels/ranges and so helpful in knowing what to look for!

I know doc Rae did a review on dog chow which is what I’m feeding my very picky golden, and she’s doing well. I’ve noticed she does better on the “grocery” isle of dog food than the botique dog foods. We trust Purina with all of our pets even the chickens 😂

Thank you for doing a video on this! This was great and reassuring!
We have 4 dogs, 3 adult golden retrievers (ages 10, 2, 1.5) and a 4 month old Great Pyrenees. We feed Iams Lamb Large Breed to our oldest and youngest goldens. We feed Purina One Healthy Digestion to our one golden. We feed Iams LB puppy to our Great Pyrenees. We like that we can buy them from many retailers, the diets have been around for a long time from a reputable company, and more importantly the price point as feeding 4 large dogs can add up. We always appreciate your videos, thank you for sharing!

That’s amazing for an affordable option! The more expensive food doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the best! The nutrient levels in Royal Canin and Purina are actually quite high (not all of course). But since I’m a pet food nerd I’ve actually looked and surprisingly and for the price point you pay you would think the nutrient levels for the most expensive foods would be the lowest. And facts are they are not! One thing with HSD they are at the top of the market for nutrient levels especially for cats. All of their commercial foods have the lowest calcium and phosphorus on the market, particularly their Senior formulas.

Would love a review of retriever brand from tractor supply! My friend keeps raving about how good it is for his hunting dogs

Thank you for sharing. You and Dr Rae are great. I have to keep watching your videos to talk me off of those advertising ledges. They're very good at guilting you into thinking you're not doing the right thing. It's good you two are out here reminding people what really matters, nutrition.

I have a request; could you compare fromm senior dog to the few options that natural balance has, particularly the limited ingredient salmon.
If the fromm senior is not as good of an option, I'm thinking of switching her to the same brand as my other dogs.

I emailed Iams for the info on the healthy digestion and was told: The dry matter basis for IAMS Advanced Health Healthy Digestion is: 32% Protein, 1.36% Calcium and 1.18% Phosphorus.
In case anyone wanted to know :)

Back in the late 90’s, in my remote little town of Northern Quebec, the only place I could get my pet food was at my vet’s clinic. She carried Eukanuba and Iams as over-the-counter food, besides her prescription diets for the specific health needs of her pet patients. So, I fed Eukanuba to my dogs and cats, and they all thrived on that food throughout their different life stages. I had a magnificent Alaskan Malamute who ate Eukanuba from puppyhood all the way through to his last day with me, at 14 years old. He was healthy and strong all his life until his senior years started to wear him down. My cats also did great on Eukanuba, and lived to be 18 - 20 years old. My current dog and cat are now doing well on SD, but if they could not tolerate it, I would consider Iams or Eukanuba! Thank you Glenn for this interesting review! 🐶😻🐕‍🦺

What happened to the video? It cuts off when you start looking at Eukanuba's ingredients and jumps into you comparing nutrients.

Wow!! What a great comparison! Friends of mine feeds the Iams mini chunks and I thought about what the nutrient levels were. I don't care where I buy my pet food as long as it's good quality. My local Kroger grocery store sells Iams and I can get a 7lb bag for $18 vs what I'm paying for SD at 4lbs bag for $24, but I also buy the sensitive stomach and not sure if she really needs that to be honest LOL! I maybe switching after seeing this. I just love your channel! I shared this on FB page and hopefully will open up some other folks eyes.

Instead of Q&A I have a question about QA.
Quality Assurance.
I was fine with Iams for decades then one day my champion GSD threw up his Iams from a new bag. After that he wouldn’t touch it. I switched to Blue Buffalo life protection and had no transitional problems at all.
Is it worth paying more if it gives you more confidence in the company’s QA process?

Ok, so when you call a co, you ask for amounts per 100 kcals? Thanks!

Hi, if you are looking for a food with lower calcium the Iams Lamb and Rice is a bit better.
