Dude, VERY nice and professional video. This was more clear and concise that 99% of the adult instructional videos out there. Perfectly detailed where it needed to be. EXCELLENT job. And THANK YOU. You saved me $100's.

The very first thing I thought of was “please don’t let this be some kid doing a tutorial” well, I was wrong! This kid was amazing! Clear precise directions! Well done 👍🏼

Maybe someone else caught this, but I'll re-state it anyway as I just found this out the hard way.

At 3:34 under the "Mixer" tab, make sure to turn BOTH the "Mic/Aux" AND "Desktop Audio" mics to the "off" position, and only have the "Video Capture Device" mic on. Otherwise any audio being played on your computer and any noise in the same room (people speaking, a television playing in the background, etc.) will end up in the digital conversion of the 8mm tape along with the original audio from the tape. I was wondering why I could hear audio from a current tennis match playing in the background of tapes of my young adult children from when they were toddlers. No, it wasn't some "Back To The Future" phenomenon, just me having all three mics turned on...

Note that the resolution suggested in this video may need to be changed according to your device. When I used 720×480 pixels as suggested by this video, some of my camera was cut off. Hence I changed the resolution to 720×576 in the OBS Studio source properties which fixed the issue. However, this may be different for everybody so definitely look into it. Besides this, this video was really helpful and easy to follow.

Kyle you are my freaking hero I have 8mm videos from 2000-2003 of my daughters when they were babies and had no idea how to convert them. I bought a similar converter here in Canada and followed your directions. A few things were different because I'm on a mac but I am so excited it worked. I panicked for a minute because there wasn't sound but I got it figured out. Your video was so clear and was done so well unlike many many many others out there! Thank you so so much!!!

NOTICE: For anyone doing this, make sure to deinterlace in OBS. That will prevent jagged lines on your video. I'll be making an improved video later.

SOLUTION TO SOUND ISSUES - This is how I got sound to work on mine:

- Right click on your Video Capture Device source and select Properties.
- Scroll to the bottom of the options until you get to Audio Output Mode.
- Try all 3 options. The one that worked for me was Output desktop audio (WaveOut) --> DirectSound also works, but then a thumping sound starts
- Be sure to check Use custom audio device and select OEM (AV to USB2.0 in my case).

Hope this helps!

Dude....? You're like maybe 13 but you have better production than literally 90% of youtube. Better than adults who have money for high quality gear. The audio was good, your voice over was good, and the information was good. HOW? HOW DO YOU DO THIS AT SUCH A YOUNG AGE?!

I watched this video to learn how to digitize tapes from my childhood that have been sitting around the house for years. I’m super relieved that the footage will be preserved now if anything were to happen to the tapes and I can even show them to my future kids one day. Thank you so much!

This is a great video well done on the tutorial I have about 20 of these tapes at two hours each and over a six month period I converted them to DVD with my Song DVD Recorder (live a VHS Recorder) then I took the DVD and converted it to a digital file. Once I had the file I cut each of the dates into separate files added a fade in and fade out and then converted them back to DVD with a menu as a Christmas Gift for my Father and Mother. Again this took about six months of time and was a blast to see all of the home movies from when I was growing up.

Just wanted to say, that you are great. I have been watching videos for days trying to figure out how to get my video to come up and all I needed was this program. You are a life saver. Great job and your parents have to be super proud of you. I'm glad I ran up on your video. Thank you so, so, so much. Now I can capture 40 years of family videos and save them to my computer. I have subscribed to your channel.
