How I clean balance staff pivots

preview_player
Показать описание
I use pith wood to clean off the pivots of a balance staff. Name of watch is Robot, Swiss, 17 jewels, auto wind. Bought at a flea market. Was not running but balance staff is good. Will only wind with auto wind, stem wind does not work. Spring on auto wind click was not installed correctly. Easy fix. Now I have to figure out why stem wind doesn't work.

Thanks for the advice on the blue tack. Some times I need three hands to do something and the tack could be the third hand. One of these days I am going to get some one dip for hairsprings.

Thanks for watching, I think I have some diamond powder but I was going to save it for removal of rust from pivots. I have a Gruen with a movement similar to the watch in this video. I will have to check out your videos.

That's a Felsa 690 movement, they're fairly common. First movements with an auto rotor wind, capable of winding when swung in both directions.

Great video only a suggestion use a movement holder when working on a movement and as for working on a balance stick the balance cock down using some blue tack this will hold until you've finished putting back the balance spring and gives you both hands to work with. also i use one dip cleaner solution this cleans the balance spring best regards ady

Are you panning to do a full clean on this movement? if so could you take a look into the mainspring barrel for me. I have a Felsa 690 dismantled at the moment, waiting for some parts and a clean and would be fantastic to see a good way to go about this.

Great video. Bunn, have you consider of doing a video on what tools you are using and or what is your watch repair bench looks like?

So the log of pithwood is used to clean movement parts that you "stab" into it and the pegwood you have to sharpen it and it's used for cleaning holes or between the wheel teeths? I don't seem to find the difference or the correct use of both woods...if you could help me out. Thank you!

I am wondering as to why you did not place this Robot movement into a movement holder first after you removed it from its case. Would not the movement holder provide you a more stable place from which you could first loosen the hairspring holding screw while the movement was secured in the movement holder. I would think you could with your experience in this area be able to then carefully remove the balance bridge while leaving the balance wheel and hairspring in place. You usually do this in your other excellent videos. Enjoy your videos very much, highly instructive and a humorous learning experience for all of us.

Bad way to fit balance to balance plate and to again assemble whole balance assembly.
