Echoes of Ancient Greece - 'The Cosmic Wisdom of Urania'
Показать описание
A 'live' performance of track 6, "The Cosmic Wisdom of Urania", from my new album, "Echoes of Ancient Greece" - due for release across all the usual digital music platforms including Spotify, iTunes & Aamzon on 3rd May 2021, the album can also be pre-ordered on iTunes & Amazon from 17th April.
Aiming to 'carry on where the ancient Greeks left off', this album features new music - for the recreated ancient Greek lyre!
Inspired by an idea to literally musically evoke snapshots from ancient Greek mythology, the selection of tracks attempt to convey the distinctive attributes of many of the long-forgotten deities of the ancient Greek pantheon of gods and goddesses.
The recreated lyre featured for most of the tracks in this album, is the marvellously mythological "Lyre of Apollo III" - a massive chelys (tortoise shell form) lyre; handmade in modern Greece, by Luthieros:
Urania, (Greek: “Heavenly”) in ancient Greek mythology, was one of the nine Muses, and the patron of astronomy.
In some accouts she was the mother of Linus the musician (in other versions, his mother is the Muse Calliope); the father was either Hermes or Amphimarus, son of Poseidon.
Urania was also occasionally used as a byname for Aphrodite. Her attributes were the globe and compass.
In an attempt to convey the eternal timelessness of the cosmos, this piece features the dreamy yet dramatic ancient Greek Hypophrygian mode, with my lyre tuned in geometrically pure just intonation. Misnamed the 'Dorian' mode in the Middle Ages, this mode comprises of the conjunction of 2 tetrachords which form the equivalent intervals as D-D on the white notes of the piano.
