A 'live' performance of "The Chronicles of Cronus" - track 7 from my 2021 album, "Echoes of Ancient Greece". Aiming to 'carry on where the ancient Greeks left off', this album features new music - for the recreated ancient Greek lyre!

Inspired by an idea to literally musically evoke snapshots from ancient Greek mythology, the selection of tracks attempt to convey the distinctive attributes of many of the long-forgotten deities of the ancient Greek pantheon of gods and goddesses.

The recreated lyre featured for most of the tracks in this album, is the marvellously mythological "Lyre of Apollo III" - a massive chelys (tortoise shell form) lyre; handmade in modern Greece, by Luthieros:

Available from all major digital music platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon & iTunes, losseless studio quality audio of this album is also available from Bandcamp:

Cronus was the youngest son of Uranus and Gaea, the leader of the first generation of Titans, and, for a brief period, the ruler of all gods and men. He successfully led the rebellion against his father, but soon grew as tyrannical as him, imprisoning both the Cyclops and the Hecatoncheires, and swallowing all of his children, save the last son; eventually, this child – Zeus – would be the one to overthrow him and lock him away in Tartarus!

The drama of this myth is expressed through the use of the intense ancient Greek Dorian Mode: a conjunction of 2 tetrachords which form the equivaent intervals as E-E on the white notes of the piano, but heard here with my lyre tuned in authentic just intonation.

I also demonstrate how the skin soundboard of my lyre can also be used as a drum for rthythmic effects, in addition to how vibrato can be achieved, by pressing strings below the lyre bridge.

Love this piece. I didn’t realise the drumming was on the lyre itself. Amazing! Also appreciate the info in the video, too! 👏🥰
