The South is known for a lot of things, but it could be argued that the thing it’s known most for is its food. From fried chicken, to barbecue, to cobbler and pie, the South has perfected countless comforting and delicious dishes. So it’s little wonder that its fast food chains are also some of the best in the country.

Unfortunately for those of us who reside outside of the region, many of these chains — and their incredible eats — are out of reach. So the next time you find yourself in a Southern state, make sure to drive through. These are the Southern fast food chains we wish were everywhere.

I've been going to taco cabana with my dad for 30 years. Since I was a little girl. The one thing I will miss when I finally move out of Texas!

That’s a great list where I tried most of them, but a hidden gem that wasn’t mentioned is a fast food place called Braum’s. The burgers are incredible and so is their fresh ice cream too. I found it in Oklahoma City and there are some locations in the Dallas area too. I highly recommend that place.

I live in Canada. I wish we had Buc-ee's, White Castle, In and Out Burgers, Der Dutchman, Katz's Deli, Waffle House, Roscoe's, and Sizzler.

We have a Buc-ees in Leeds AL and it has been open for a while now. I have never walked through their front door, yet. I will give them a try very soon. We have Jack's here as a local and throughout Alabama but it's nothing to write home about. They had a great 15 cent hamburger when I was growing up, many many years ago

Cook-Out's barbeque sandwich is my absolute favorite fast food item. With slaw and hot sauce of course! Best bang for the buck fast food I've ever had.

Golden Chick, chicken strips 😋 are so good, never knew it, until one day it was the only game in town in Austin, Texas. The world stood still after the first bite.

My first trip to Atlanta, many years ago, I joked about how there was a Waffle House and a Baptist Church on every corner, but I had to drive 10 miles for Dunkin'... I'm from upstate NY where Dunkin' is a religion... I fell in love with Waffle House, and then I tried Cook Out and was hooked! Every trip now I make sure I hit both at least twice. Oh, to have those two here in NY...

"Taco Cabana" had a store in Killeen, TX for several years before I realized they were saying "Cabana" and not "Banana." A few guys from a friend of mine's AT Company shot up a Wotta Burger with shotguns without hurting anyone in 1991, right after the Gulf War. My friend was relieved no one was hurt and concerned about the marksmanship training in the company.

Literally just had a buc-ee's pulled pork sandwich for lunch that I got last night. It truly is a cult classic here in texas

Whataburger is the best! I wish they had one in Chicago.

Would have been nice if they would have designated area for truck drivers to come in and do a little shopping!

«A burger so gigantic, it will require two hands to hold.» That's... just a burger. If I can hold it in a single hand, it's a slider.

Not so sure if I like Pal’s food-covered buildings, reckon I just don’t like change. My family is from Kingsport, and across the line in Virginia. I remember eating at Pal’s. Nothing better than a tall, happy, handsome man that brings you food!
