Be Aware of this WoW Scam

Today on stream a person did try to scam me. I had a the polymorph turtle tome on ah, and this person asked me if I wanted to sell it a bit cheaper. I accepted his offer and did meet him in stormwind. What these scammers will do it do put the gold in the trade window, and remove it just as your are about to accept the trade.

Blizzard should basically ban anyone who tries to do this. Absolutely cancerous behavior

Should just do it how PoE does it - any time the trade window is modified in any way, it disallows you to accept the trade, and forces you to manually mouse over each item before being able to accept.

That's pretty crazy they can take the gold out while your accept window is still up, and when you hit accept it's for the new trade. Seems like an exploit of the trade confirmation window. Usually, if anything changes between the trade you'd have to re-accept, but that's not being triggered here.

This happened to me long time ago in Runescape over a party hat, I still feel the sting of that scam.

Especially be cautious if you are on a high pop server during peak hours. Batching will make this worse. I play on whitemane and had this happen without even realizing it until after because of the lag.

Also! (thanks Asmon for this)

Be aware in TBC when crafting primal might that it may proc into several primal mights if the crafter is transmute master. Terms should be agreed upon whether the crafter gets to keep the possible extra procs or if they are to be traded to mats provider. I would recommend higher fee if trading the procs, or lower fee if giving them back.

There is a simple solution, which works flawless already in many other mmo games. Double confirmation. But after the first confirmation u cannot change, put items in or out the trade window. After the first confirmation window is locked for using(adding or removing items) and serves only for last check before both side make another confirmation and the trade is done without any probability of scam.

Yeah, I had a few people (fail) to do this to me before. I've since just moved to only doing C.O.D. or AH and not trading anyone anything of value unless I have a long standing relationship with them.

this happened to me a couple weeks ago. Blizz said they couldn't do anything about it. Like wth do I pay $15/month for?

Almost got scammed last night out of 1000g but I cancelled just in the nick of time. Lousy scammer wasn’t fast enough

I usually just wait for them to press and then wait a little when its green before accepting myself. If you take it slowly, scam won't work that well

I used to run somewhat of a scam in TBC when I was like 13.
Find a useless, yet somewhat unique white item. Make sure there are no other instances of it on the AH, and list it for like 200 gold using a temporary alt. Log into another temp char, and start spamming /2 "WTB [useless item] 300g". Ignore the few people who whisper you that there's one for cheaper on AH. When someone takes the bait and gets ready to trade, tell them that that you just have to transfer some money over from your main. Log into your first temp char and check whether the item sold. If it did, send the money to your main and delete the two temp characters. Made thousands doing this, I was such a shithead kid, lol :D

That is why I almost never do this. I rather take the AH cut than enable this to happen. But if you are aware that this could happen you can ofcouse make sure it doesn't by checking the gold is still here before you accept the transfer.

this is why i use secureTrade addon.. makes you wait 3 seconds before accepting trade! amazing addon

They've been doing this for a long time, there was a Reddit post/videos/etc. many months ago. Blizzard does not care, unfortunately.

hey could you keep an eye out for the lvl 64 boe blue dagger "Blade of Unquenched thirst" to test the proc rate on it? It has the same proc as ancient hakkari manslayer (life steal that scales with spell power) and im curious how it compares. Also I heard a rumor that the proc rate was initially really bad but later on got changed to be better.

Tldw; Make sure when you do trades be VERY careful and watch a trade, especially important ones.

We had a lvl one doing something similar where he would offer to trade a stack of black lotus and quickly turn it into a single lotus for the confirmation.

General rule if you are worried about being scammed never rush your trades

Used to do this trick all the time while playing on minecraft servers now, everytime I trade a high-valued item I wait 10-20 second before accepting in caution of this.

Edit: Also, if you ever see someone doing this, whisper them and ask them why they "accidentally" cancelled the trade as if you don't know they're trying to scam you, if they try the trick again, simply take your item out right before they accept and you can anti-scam them.
