Nic I just wanted to jump in here and tell you to check the bearing ID on the new bearing. I just received a new rod bearing that was in the wrong box. I ordered some rod bearings for a Honda clone crank pin size of 1.179"/1.180" and I received a Predator non-hemi type rod bearing in one box! The Predator non-hemi bearings are .010 larger ID than the Honda clone types used in the Predator Hemi and other clones. If I hadn't caught it the engine would have knocked for sure! Don't trust the new parts to be correct or in the correct box, mine weren't!

Looks like you're having fun Nic! Those 224 crankshafts aren't the greatest quality. My first one was .001 out of round, and that was a new part. (for race engine builds .001 OOR is a BIG problem) If your crank pin is a bit too small, call EC or ARC, they may be making a .010 rod bearing to fit these by now. I know they have any size you need for a Briggs flat head. Anyway, if they have the bigger bearing just use a ball hone to size it to the exact oil clearance you want.

Isn't it odd that the plastigage doesn't match the caliper measurement? I ran out to the garage to measure a couple different clone crankshafts and got the 1.180 on both. I never measured my 224 crankshaft when I built it.

Where did you get the new crankshaft? I recently seen that ARC racing has them for $31.50.
