When I saw Aemond's reaction to Lucerys and Arrax being killed, I knew that he didn't plan for it and could tell that he was just trying to have some fun. He just didn't realize that he didn't have the control over Vhagar that he thought he did.

Credit to the actors for portraying the emotions of the characters. Despite their intent, the situation went sideways. Dragons are not machines but territorial animals

I felt so bad for Lucerys and Arrax you could hear him scream right before they both got chomped by Vhagar

I don't feel that Arrax was being stupid for the flame attack on Vhagar. I feel that Arrax did it out of fear as part of the fight or flight response. Fleeing hadn't been working so he tried the next thing he knew. Possibly to try to distract long enough to get away which clearly did not work.

Game of Thrones is really the epitome of "Play stupid games, win stupid prizes"

Aemond is living out the fantasy of every child who has been bullied. He's now bigger and stronger than his childhood bully with a MUCH more powerful dragon. And since they have no therapists in King's Landing, he never worked through his childhood trauma which left him with nothing but revenge fantasies. He wanted Luce to feel as humiliated as Luce has made him feel over the years. He didn't mean for his dragon to eat his nephew. But that's what happens when the most powerful weapon in the world belongs to a butthurt 19 year old.

Luce seemed like such a good kid--a rarity among all these privileged and spoiled royalty kids. All he wanted was just to be a kid. He kind of reminded me of how I imagined a young Viserys I to be.

I’m at the beginning of the video and the answer is simple Aemond knows that with Lucerys’s death the breakout of war is imminent and there’s no turning back now. He’s accidentally started a war in which thousands will die

Don't forget Riders and their Dragons share a telepathic bond that goes on a deeper level then simply telling a Dragon where to fly. Aemond was in a position of power over the person who tormented him as a child and took his eye in a fight he didn't start. Vhagar was probably feeling all these emotions and memories from Aemond in this state. So when Arrax attacked Vhagar, and breathed fire on her left eye (the same side eye Aemond lost) it sent her into a unbridled rage.

Arrax: breathes fire on Vhagar
Vhagar: *FUCK AROUND AND FIND OUT*

Whether or not it was unintentional from Aemond’s side, he is still responsible for what happened. He chose to pursue the dragon pup and Luke, he stirred a spar even inside the castle. That was reckless of him, not to mention that Vhagar knew and felt how chaotic Aemond’s core is, she knew how he disliked Luke. Terrible as it sounds, the death of Luke and Arrax will change the course of Rhaenyra’s plans.

yeah, I feel their families stories are super sad. like each conflict was an escalating misunderstanding. they hurt each other and didn’t like each other much, but the did see each other as families. the death was flat his dragon not listening to him and being mad this little lizard threw flame in his face

Aemond: "Oh, man, mom's gonna kill me."

Aemond had the whole " WHAT HAVE I DONE! " Anakin moment when Anakin attacked Mace. I don't think they wanted to kill each other, Aemond just wanted to scare him or intimidate him but their dragons weren't having any of that S haha

Aemond just didn't want to be the reason the war starts. Considering his family offered terms to Rhaenyra to prevent war and he just started it by killing luke. No other reason as he clearly hates Luke.

Aemond's thoughts after all happened - "ehm, mother will tear my head off for official starting war". In the same time Otto went to Rhaenyra to discuss peaceful solution lol. Aemond - you're "genius" 🤣

The irritating part of the dynamic between Aemond and Lucerys is that Aemond fully brought it on himself to lose his eye. He antagonized the younger kids to the point of fearing for their lives and Lucerys struck out in legitimate defense of his siblings, believing their cousin was going to kill them. He has had nobody to blame but himself for getting injured and thereby no business blaming or taking it out on the other kids.
