Schools aren’t a federal matter in Germany. State ministries are responsible for personnel and syllabus questions. And the ‘dual system’ approach, which combines practical experience with classroom learning, is also a unique aspect of education here.

The efficiency of German education, something that has been known about since eighteen sixtys, I have read. Industry training technicians, college for brightest, and a chance to reach higher.

It's not always the amount spent but how it is spent.

The video forgot to make it clear that kids are not really able to choose where they will go after primary school. It is the system that determines their future: the ones that go well in a test, are able to reach university in the future. The ones that don't pass the test, can only work in "lower" job positions, such as technicians. That sounds like a caste system to me!

Omg the translation is terrible, Germany has 3 main school types - Gymnasium (grammar school up to grade 12), Realschule (high school up to grade 10), Hauptschule (secondary school up to grade 9 ). There are also Stadtteilschulen (regional schools, where 12 years of Gymnasium curriculum is put into 13) and Berufsschulen ( vocational schools. What they are describing up there is a Dualstudium (which happens after grade 12 not 10), an apprenticeship is an Ausbildung which happens after grade 9-10. There is also a normal, theoretical Studium (university) Yikes.

Let's cut through the bull.based on the last three Pisa studies germany discriminates against non germans, non EU.and if your parents are academics or bureaucrats your also given an advantage not based on abilities.this is the reason that parents now have an input into their children's future ie their scholastic future. before this the teachers decided(after being exposed 3x by Pisa it changed)but Germans have found a new trick to keep the peter/dilbert principle going.private school(normal workers and foreigners who have been discriminated against of course can't afford these schools) are the new way to maintain the class system that still exist in Germany.even the German language is hierarchal, Sie, Meister, Herren etc.und ja ich Kann deutsch sprechen.und ja ich habe I'm Deutschland gewohnt. As an American I can clearly see the German way of making themselves seem important through unnecessary vocational training(ausbuildung)we in America have OJT. Germany can compete only against eastern or so called 2nd, 3rd world nations but not 1st world or western nations because they as America refuse to put competence over clique and are falling behind(Berlin Airport, Fiber optics, IT, consumer goods etc, etc).Germany ego, Arrogance complexes won't allow them to consider anything outside of their Norm(being inflexible won't get you anywhere).

When the transition from primary school to either secondary or high school occurs. Do the students just choose or is there a testing process in order to qualify for high school???

what is gemeinschaftsschule? and gesamtschule? in simple terms if some one from india comes to germany for class in secondary like 7 or 8 grade and his kids go to school, what is best option in public school-gymnasium needs high language skills, if kid want to go to university for doing engineering or medical study do only option is gymnasium or other options

The new trick in Germany is to require a three year vocational school training for mundane normal jobs(a legal way to discriminate as most germans have them and foreigner not)look up Pisa studies.because of this Germany was basically forced to accept other non German degrees, certification of equal or higher standards.but theirs always a trick Dual Studium(guess who gets the spots).associate degrees, bachelor's degrees, master's degrees, and doctoral degrees. From other countries where not always accepted before.
