Battle for Kyiv, Part II - Animated Analysis

It’s the early morning of February 24th, 2022. On the territory of Belarus, right near the Ukrainian border, the elements of the Russian 35th and 36th Combined Arms Armies are preparing for something that will later become known as the largest War in Europe since WW2. In total, it’s somewhere between 35 to 50 thousand troops, hundreds of tanks, IFVs, APCs, and other vehicles as well as a considerable amount of artillery. Russia meticulously gathered its invasion force here for months, calling it a military exercise and now, they are ready to attack the heart of Ukraine - its capital Kyiv.

IMPORTANT UPDATE!

There is a mistake at 23:52. Bold numbers in square brackets are actually Ukraine's demands. Italics numbers in round brackets are Russia's demands. Thanks to all commenters who pointed that out. As well, the battle for Moschun involved battles for Horenka, a town 5km to the south which is mistakenly labeled as Moschun at 7:20. Sorry for that, I will try to be more careful next time. Hope you still enjoyed the video, though!

For all it's faults, YouTube has truely become the modern Library of Alexandria. Until the books are written, these videos are vital snapshots of history being made; they will help write those books & educate people for as long as the internet exists (as we know it).
Good work!

The small scale armor engagements like at 11:50 are my favorite parts of these video. Unsung heroes that you do not often hear of. I'm glad you give them the recognition they deserve!

Im amazed by the quality of your videos and the effort you put into them. I also appreciate the addition of names and photos of the heroes that lost their lives in service.

Bro your videos are absolutely insane. I remember so much footage you showed from the start of the war but never knew the context. The fact you pieced together footage, names of downed crew, russian aircraft callsigns etc is crazy and I understand the insane amount of research this must must have taken. Respect!

Fantastic presentation! If I could offer one suggestion, sometimes it's hard to make out which units are Ukrainian and which are Russian on the map, because you're only using unit patches and not flags or separate colours for them. It would be helpful if you added some extra visual element to them to make their affiliation stand out better.

I was in Kyiv during this time and this is the best summery of events I have seen. I hope you get a lot of views because everyone needs to know the bravery of the defenders who gave their lives to save Ukraine in these eaily stages.

I fought to defend Kiev in 2022. Similarly, my Polish ancestors fought against the Bolshevik-Russian invasion near Warsaw in 1920. I know that no one in the West believed that Ukrainians would defend Kiev. However, the Ukrainians defended Kiev against the Russian onslaught.

I find the battles around Kyiv extremely interesting. At least for me personally, there initially was just too much confusion around things to understand what was happening.
I especially like how you combine the animations with actual footage: Unit movement on the map is great, but the videos help get you a much better impression of the situation. So does explaining the "micro" side of some battles occasionaly.

Unlike your previous videos I actually saw a lot of the photos and video you used you for adding much needed context about what happened. Keep up the good work.

Excellent videos, I can see the inspiration you got from The Operations Room. Keep up the good work, we appreciate the research that must go into these videos especially since propaganda and misinformation (from both sides) tends to make accurate analysis more difficult.
Edit: I also appreciate you naming and showing pictures of all the Ukranian pilots that were killed throughout these phases of the war. It shows a lot of respect and class for the topic, putting faces on those who got killed fighting overwhelming odds to protect their country.
