I love that you say here that she switches back-and-forth from the operatic and contemporary sounds. That’s what I’ve been trying to tell people. Let the haters hear it!

Hey, mate! Nightwish and Tarja long-time fan/addict here! lol haha. Welcome on board the Nightwish ship of Wonders! haha. Loved your reactions btw, you've got a new subscriber right here and "like" buttons hitted!😊 I've seen most of your reactions to this epic, extraordinary, legendary band mostly with Floor on vocals and two with my dear Tarja❤ (including this absolutely beautiful one), and man, I'm so glad to see so many people on YT reacting to Nightwish and thus coming to know their music this way! Nightwish lore spreading all around!!! 🤘🖤Yeah! haha. I mean, you witnessed it, their music is so... God, no mundane word is enough to describe such magnificent otherworldly realm that they've created through their Music!!! Unique atmosphere, pure magic! Almost a spiritual experience to me!

Anyway, don't know if you're taking suggestions from comment sections of your videos, but I'd like to drop down here a list with some suggestions of songs by them with Tarja and I'd love to see your reaction and opinions to at least some of them😊. (I'm more of an "old school Nightwisher" haha, but - before someone misunderstands me - I absolutely LOVE their music with all three singers the band had, for imo each of them are equally amazing, great artists, just in different ways and styles, who brought special, individual and unique elements to the band that helped them grow, mature and develop their artistic identity.) I highly recommend that you add these to your reactions list as well (I'm sure you'll be thrilled!):

Now, since I'm also a Tarja addict😆hahaha, I followed her solo career far more closely and can assure she's been doing a stunning, beautiful solo work too. I just love her so much! Like, her operatic, expressive, strong, dark, powerful yet heavenly and pure voice, and the deep emotional magic she's capable of delivering through her renditions, have always given me goosebumps all over my body within the first few seconds of hearing her voice, brought tears to my eyes with every breath touching the depths of my soul ❤! I feel like she put an everlasting spell on me since I first listened to her, when I was like 13 or 14! Haha. A-hem... Sorry about that. haha
Well, as such a huge Tarja fan that I am, I must present you with her solo career work, where she shows much more of her power imo, plus she has much more freedom since she started her solo career, she can compose and write her own songs, play piano, sing however she wants to, and just fully liberate her truest artist soul.
Her solo musical style is quite different from Nightwish, although it does have plenty of the symphonic metal elements as main references such as some kinds of guitar riffs, the epic orchestral arrangements and her remarkable operatic vocals, but she incorporates aspects of many other styles, AND it's just as magnificent!! I love the fact that she just walked her own path and found her "artist self", never trying to copy or recreate her old days with the band, and I absolutely LOVE the results of her choices, I hope you like it too. So, here we go:

Since Tarja is a classically trained lyrical singer who often performs in classical concerts, reacting to some of her classical performances would be awesome too, if you have time for it, of course haha, AND if you're into some classical music stuff as well (I love it, I'm a metalhead but also a classical musician, surely I love it😆). I promise it's worth it though, she's freaking amazing!

Thank you, mate! Hope to see your reactions to some of these songs Haha. Be well!!
PS.: Sorry for my long comment, I just couldn't resist it 😆 Hahaha

Death makes an artist is such an under appreciated track in Nightwish’s repertoire.

It even got a single release in Japan and Finland exclusively.

The latter obviously because it’s an all Finnish song.

It’s definitely and unequivocally Tarja song as is passion and the opera from the Nightwish album Oceanborn.

The song Nightwish has with John two hawks is one of the most beautiful songs they have ❤

This is one of my favourite ballads by Nightwish, and your reaction was one of the Best I've seen! Thank you very much, Sam!
The great thing is that Tarja has been having an amazing solo career in the last 15 years... Her voice is high but also a full and really powerfull suported sound (and throughout her career she keeps on experimenting new things with her vocals, including a haunting dark and lower register she can belt out), plus having a theatrical presence on stage... I'm really glad you liked it!

As a sugestion, I'll leave you 3 links for some essential Live performances by Tarja Turunen solo in recent years:
2nd - Tarja singing Caccini's Ave Maria Live, using a purely Classical vocal technique (she is specialized in Lied singing and chamber music by the Karlsruhe Music University, and although her vocals in heavy rock/metal are classicaly infused, she doesn't use a pure classical technique on those occasions, as you've noticed very well in this reaction video). When Tarja performs on classical concerts, she is much more foccused on those technical aspects of singing:

I hope you enjoy these ones as much as I do! Cheers! \m/ \m/

I used to butcher this song by singing it completely phonetically 15 years ago 😬. Oh those teenage years.

Still appreciate it's beauty. Tarja is amazing.

You really have the best ears out of any vocal coach out there. In the past year I have become an even bigger fan of yours than ever. And I’ve been following you for about two or three years I think?

Yes, classical and contemporary fusion was what she tried in her last two Nightwish albums: "Century Child" and "Once". It's very typical to her nowadays too, that although she doesn't have vibrato or legato much in the song (which she earlier had), in a middle of a word, she flips between operatic and contemporary style. In higher end of her range, she sometimes goes quite operatic round mouth and vibrato to what I call "decorating" it. But she has that lowered larynx and classical sound present often even when she seems like singing contemporary style. I don't understand much how vocal organs work, but this is pretty much what I get. She sings a lot of Christmas songs, and although it would appear she sings a contemporay style song, you can hear the classical quality in the vocals. Rarely I don't hear any classical quality in the whole song.
By the way, is there a difference with legato and portamento? You said she kept it "connected" (like the bee flying) but didn't use either of those terms.
Thanks, I like to listen vocalists a lot, they mean much to me in music. If I would learn to understand something of the actual singing, so much the better!

Koo-oh-leh-ma te-ke (like in tenure and kettle) tay-tey-lee-ann 😂

What I love about this performance is that Tarja who always has a tendency to overdramatise and go full diva decided to be really tame and focus on the emotion. Also, huge props to Tuomas for this cello line which only adds to the drama :)

Have you looked at the translated lyrics?
Once I only got to see my dream
Kerran vain haaveeni nähdä sain

I did not feel the smallness under the stars
En pienuutta alla tähtien tuntenut

I once got a cradle bar
Kerran sain kehtooni kalterit

As a prisoner, I write a letter from there
Vankina sieltä kirjettä kirjoitan

My God, let me come to you therefore why my children think of me
Luojani, luoksesi anna minun tulla siksi miksi lapseni minua luulee

In you is the beauty of the world
Sinussa maailman kauneus

Which death made me an artist
Josta kuolema teki minusta taiteilijan

My God, let me come to you therefore why my children think of me
Luojani, luoksesi anna minun tulla siksi miksi lapseni minua luulee

My God, let me come to you therefore why my children think of me
Luojani, luoksesi anna minun tulla siksi miksi lapseni minua luulee

I created my own sky here
Oman taivaan tänne loin

Let me get away
Anna minun päästä pois

I created my own sky here
Oman taivaan tänne loin

Let me get away
Anna minun päästä pois

Thanks for this reaction! Kuolema Tekee Taiteilijan (Death makes an Artist) is a beautiful song that is often overlooked.
Or how about both? Very different songs, very different vocals, should be fun :)

This is NOT a reaction; this is a TECHNICAL ANALYSIS. No reaction at all; we come here so see people at absolute owe, being impressed, shocked, SPEECHLESS, even crying for one of the most beautiful songs ever composed. I'm not a hater, I'm just doing what you do, ANALYSIS. Just that.
