Yes, this is reason we old school NW fans love Tarja´s era too.

This to me is pure Nightwish, this is what made me fall in love with them, how passionate, how bombastic and how unique they were, Tuomas never composed like this ever before. Tarja completely breathes life into this song, it absolutely hypnotizes you. She certainly shows that she is much more versatile than folks give her credit for. Which it was not just something she decided on, it was Tuomas composition that also limited how she sung. Oceanborn is very very operatic, singing most of the old repertoire with a contemporary voice sounds like screaming.
She does start to have room to experiment much more in Once, you see White Night Fantasy and Romanticide with this kind of chesty, wilder voice. Of course, she went full on experimentation mode after she gained wings and went solo, MWS is still very classically oriented but WLB started flirting with lighter and chestier voice right there.
I prefer full on mezzo, dark opera diva but I love love love her chest voice which is very very metallic. House of Wax, Satumaa, Darkness or Demons in you are a very good example on how much Tarja has expanded her vocal abilities since Nightwish times.

OMG this makes me happy, seeing you react to another Nightwish "old but gold" song!
"The Siren" is soooo underrated imho. Glad you tackled it, with another enjoyable reaction. Thank you for that! ♥

The Siren is one of my Nightwish favourites. I love the vocal versatility that Tarja has in this song, that part in the middle is so cool.

That special sound Tarja is producing sounds Middle Eastern, but also has similarities with "joiking", a way of singing in Lapland.

This song can only be sung properly by Tarja, that's a fact, as many other early Nightwish songs. Good reaction as allways!

Tarja is versatile plenty. I have a playlist of songs saved where she sings in more contemporary technique. More speak singing, less vibrato. So many people think that vibrato by itself means “opera”, but they are really showing their ignorance there and judging her much too harshly.

The Siren in Greek mythology was 'a creature half bird and half woman who lured sailors to destruction by the sweetness of her song.' Odysseus had himself tied to the mast of his ship so he could hear the beautiful song without being called to his death. Tarja is the Siren; Marco, Odysseus. I always felt this song was about Tuomas' relationship with his muse, Tarja.

HELL. YES. I just wrapped up a 12 hr workday, and saw you'd uploaded your take on one of my very favourite NW songs and performances! This is just... chill-inducingly good, and pretty pared-back for NW in this era, letting Marco and Tarja's voices do the heavy lifting. And listen to Emppu shredding away on his guitar! I miss hearing his guitar this much in a NW song...

It took him 12 seconds to smile. That's what I call the Nightwish effect :)

Did you know that she is also a voice teacher? There’s something she said in her press conference after she was dumped by Nightwish, about how she was constantly learning and teaching singing. I don’t think anyone else picked up on that, but I was surprised a couple of weeks ago when I re-watched it.

This is one of those songs that can only be sung by Tarja
I still have no idea how she produced that sound in the part right after the keyboard solo. Really unique stuff there.

Listen Tarja singing The Siren is like a travel by Imaginary World. I really love it.
I like the part 5:48-50 when she singing and end with a sound like a hiccup. It's sound so hard to do.
Thanks by your react.
😉✌🏼

I only know how beautifully Tarja and Marco's voices blend together. Nothing quite like knowing your vocal partner so well to blend a harmony. Thinking of Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel. People who seen them go through a set without looking at eachother, thinking they must not be getting along, that refuse eye contact. It was explained simply as not needing to see eachother to know what their partner was doing at any point during the set. Familiarity is such a force.
