The 1st permanent settlement in the US is St Augustine, Florida in 1565. The first European expedition was at the same place in 1513 by Juan Ponce de Leon, who named FLORiDA because he arrived on Easter Sunday ('Pascua Florida' in Spanish) but it was not permanent.

A friend of mine in Wales🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 actually said it best that, in regards to military might and overall mentality, it could be said that the U.S.🇺🇸 is the son closest to the father🇬🇧. Canada🇨🇦 is the well-behaved first born but Uncle Sam is the rebellious son more like the father in his prime (which the father hates to admit😂).

were a group of British colonies on the Atlantic coast of North America founded in the 17th and 18th centuries which declared independence in 1776 and formed the United States of America. The Thirteen Colonies had very similar political, constitutional, and legal systems, and were dominated The New England colonies (Massachusetts, Connecticut,  Rhode Island and New Hampshire), as well as the colonies ofMaryland and Pennsylvania, were founded primarily for the furtherance of religious beliefs, while the other colonies were founded for business and economic expansion. All thirteen were part of Britain's possessions in the New World, which also included colonies in Canada,  Florida, and the Caribbean.

At the time of the American Revolution, there were 15 British colonies on the North American continent. Two colonies did not revolt; Canada and Florida.

Theres lots of places in the Eastern US named after places in Britain for example Hertford is in Hertfordshire where I'm from. There is also a Boston in England.
