The slots in the plastic box are for air circulation . If the fruit can't get air, moisture would build up and mold would eventually occur. However, I see where the slots would serve a dual purpose.

You need to put them strawberries in baking soda to get the bugs out

I wash my strawberries this way but open the lid so water goes all over all the strawberries then close the lid and shake it up a little bit and the water just drains right out

Open the lid to wash the berries, close it to t drain them

Why not flatten them before you griddle them
