Wow great video! I’m a rookie, two weeks in. My biggest fear are truck stops parking. I’m actually in a rest area for those reasons you mentioned in the video lol. Backing is kicking my butt too lol. I will try your methods of starting early and get done early and practice. Thank you for sharing your wisdom. 💯❤️

I love that the “rookies” are so open and helpful. The “non rookies “ seem to not really care or get too busy with their criticism that just turns others away from them. We are so happy happy happy that you share your experiences whatever they may be.

Don't pay any attention to the idiots all of us were rookies. I've been driving for 38yrs and I'm still learning because so much has changed since I started driving.

Here's another big difference between a rest area and a truck stop. I NEVER and I mean NEVER had to back into a space at a rest area or a service plaza. At a truck stop, you will have to back into a hole 99.99% of the time. Having that said, if you're not good at backing, you should go to a rest area. I was at a Pilot location last night I-70 exit 208, some of the holes were very difficult to back into, they were vacant even at 10 pm. Normally, by that time every hole would be filled if they were easy to back into.

PS: At a truck stop, you can easily find other truckers to help you to back into a hole. A guy came out to help me last nigh even though I didn't ask for help. Many truckers are willing to help each others because they understand trucking is a hard job.

Going on my 9th year and learn/see/hear something new everday. We all have held the title of, "Rookie." Your content and willingness to share with other drivers, shows you're a professional.

Fuck people who honk and cuss at you. Take your time worry about yourself and nobody else it is your license not them truck stop vets are rude I know I been doing this for a while. Practice does help and never be afraid to get out if your unsure and look at surrounding and always help others out if they are struggling it pays in the end. Wish you luck and stay safe out there.

I prefer rest areas. Shipper or receivers when possible or on ramps vs fuel stops

Get a fridge & microwave. I’m saving myself $500 a month eating out my truck. Now I love rest areas & dirt lots. More peaceful, but I’ll admit. I feel less safe. Always on guard at night. 😬

Truckstops are for comfort. Rest areas are for survival lol.

Good valid pros and cons.. and yaa it all depends on each one's preferences and needs.. I like truck stops cus they have the facilities if needed.. showers and what not.. I have a fridge/freezer in my truck so I always have food and cook alot in my truck but still prefer truck stops.. the parking is or can be difficult but as you mentioned it's good practice... every spot won't be the same.. so it's about honing in your skills... I don't think I've stayed at a rest area.. don't plan on it if not needed.. when I'm on my trip I stop there for a 30 or quick pit stop but not over night.. like the idea of starting early to end early.. good habit to get into.. enhances your chances of getting a spot.. I tend to look for the big truck stops.. and yes mom and pops ones as well..

Oh and never let anyone discourage you from putting out your info or your preferences.. as they say 2 heads are better then 1.. or more then 2 are better then 1.. keep it coming be safe and happy trails

I go to rest area the most. I try to avoid truck stop . Only there to shower. Get food. Stuff I need .

It’s not about being a rookie .. and it doesn’t mean if your new to something you can’t have or don’t have good ideas. You should seek knowledge from everyone reguardless or how long they have been doing something

Love rest areas. Stop and get food at the truck stop and head to the rest area.

Good take on this topic, being a rookie has absolutely no bearing on personal observation and experience. Thanks for your expertise Madam
