Hi. Very oddly I was looking for songs on altruism and for some reason your video popped up in response to a key word; and as I also teach Literature I like to see how other teachers are presenting this area as it is an uphill battle getting students to write theme properly. Having said that, I found the information quite useful up to the use of the words 'should' 'can' in your 'topic to theme' examples, which make them into Morals of what you should or can do, instead of true universal statements/observations. I found that your construction of the theme in your example for Lord of the Flies better expresses what a universal statement is. You may want to do some checking to see if there is any validity to my comments. All the best to you.
