What to learn your first poi dance lesson! When you're a poi beginner it can seem like there's an overwhelming volume of beginner poi moves. This video covers the 3 beginner poi tricks that I usually teach people in their first lesson. Those poi tricks for beginners are centered around teaching 3 fundamental lessons about how the prop moves and how you move with it. See if they're a good fit for you!

Amazing work as usual - while I watched this video through - I was saying to myself "YES!" excited because these lessons you have in this video are the same lessons that I taught at Flow State in RI on April 27th.. I was excited to know that teaching these moves was a great choice for absolute and even advanced beginners. A great start for those beginning their poi journeys. :) Thank you!

I teach hoop but the first class looks very similar in structure. :) A small handful of moves that work together. Great video. I would love to share more poi with the community soon too :) :)

Hey Drex, i thought the video was pretty good. I started spinning poi just a couple weeks ago and i feel it never hurts to watch as many beginner vids as i can. I purchased the led ones from spinballs, perfect for me since i am just learning. Also have the spinballs app with all of your lessons, using it daily. Thanks for clear and easy to follow tutorials.

I've been spinning for several years, and I'm almost entirely self taught, aside from a few YouTube tutorials. But that was just fundamentals early on, and perhaps if I had a great poi teacher and a real desire to learn it from someone else I would be a lot better after the years I've put into it.

Either way, my best advice is at least ten minutes of practice a day, if not up to an hour or more when you can, for about a year. And YouTube :p

Very helpful to address transitions right off. I constantly struggle with that, I can do a few tricks fairly well, I just can't seem to get them to flow into one another. Turning from a side trick to a front/back trick is the worst! Is it done with just a stall every time? Do you have a video that addresses that issue? Thanks so much! :D

Hey Drex,
I've been spinning for a little over 6 months and I've been noticing that I've had trouble transitioning from the weave/windmills/split time opposite moves because it feels comfortable so I'm always finding myself going back to that spot. Any tips for overcoming this and learning to move more fluidly with other timing and directions?

How do you deal with fear after hitting yourself real badly in the face? I had that problem and I noticed that I was afraid after that. I'm a beginner and I struggle a little bit with that fear. Thanks for your videos!
