Why Australia's Capital Is So GOOD! (Canberra ACT)

This city absolutely took us by surprised and we loved every minute of it, weather it was the landscape, the coffee, the lookouts, the festival or even the stunning museums or galleries that it has to offer!

I grew up in Canberra.
I miss it. Always have. It's where my heart is.
I worked on the Constuction of New Parliament house for over 2 years.
I built the glass pyramid dead center of the building beneath the flag.
I was just 15 through 17 so very much the junior member of the five man team. I wasn't the contractor or anything.
While I didn't lay the marble in the Foyer, they got Italians in for that, I did labour for them and there is a lot of my sweat in that as well. Lol.
The Italian marble guys were funny as fk. They couldn't speak a word of English and only knew what they learnt on site so it was F this F that and all knew were swear words.
One day one of them came in and he was ranting and carrying on excitedly about the "cocky ones" turns out one of the other contractors had put two cockatoo's in his car. Hahaha.
I remember the day the Prime ministers office furniture arrived.
I may or may not have got down on my back and signed the underneath of his desk. Haha.
Biggest building in the southern hemisphere by the way. Most people will never know just how big it is because 90% of it is not accessible to the public. Miles and miles of tunnels and basements under the ground.
We all spent a full six months getting lost almost every day before we knew our way around. That big.

Most Australian and international visitors seem to stay away from Canberra (where I live) because they don't really know what it is like. I wish they would come to see the city and experience what it has to offer.

You will no doubt notice that there will be loads of negative comments about Canberra. There was a huge battle between other Australian cities to be declared the Capital city of Australia. Canberra was set up in the middle of nowhere to settle the fight and the other cities have bitterly hated Canberra ever since then.

Unless you get sick hospital services are worse than rural NSW. Want to rent or buy a home? Bad luck, local Government is keeping land prices inflated and some of the worst in the world, $600, 000 being cheapest for a normal land only house block. land is in abundance and not limited by the ocean but in the middle of the NSW country side…

The colors of Parliament House are the same in all Westminster style democracies. It is taken from the House of Parliament in the UK, with an Australian color tinge (the blue, green you described). The House of Representatives is the people's house, and the Senate is the house of the states. This is taken from US democracy, as is much of our Constitution.

As for 1997, the Port Arthur Massacre. This is where 34 people were shot and killed at Port Arthur in Tasmania. Additional persons were shot and wounded. Following that, the horrible man from Western Sydney, Howard, forced his laws through Parliament. No issue better gun laws were needed, but they went too far and became too restricted. Every person deserves their freedom, including those who wish to use guns for lawful purposes.

Canberra is an incredible place. I lived there in the 1990s, during college, before leaving Australia. It is double the size now! Kingston was an incredible place to live!

Gen. Bridges grave on Mt Ainslie is not the high point. Black Mountain is. But yeah, many times I ran up to his grave. No way I'd run up Black Mountain. If you pair really want to see ALL of Oz, get rid of the luxury ride and get a 4x4 slide on/off camper and get off the main drag. 🚚
