You know the love went both ways because Stan tried to get Soos’s birthday struck from calendars

On one hand, that’s objectively immoral, but on the other… look at the alternative, Soos never HAD a parental figure until then, and Stanly, underneath all the stinginess and impatience, genuinely cared about his crew, so in a way, there’s a major silver lining to this. Stan knows how to do that, toe the line between being immoral and being evil
