REVERSE-TIED CADDIS FLIES

Показать описание
SOMETHING DIFFERENT IN FLYTYING
Based on the Speckle Devil (Spekl Devl) a one-feather reverse fly, I now introduce backwards-tied Caddis & Usual patterns...where the tail is at the hook eye instead of by the barb.
Follow the video to build this pattern......just remember how the Bizarros in the Superman Comics did everything backwards...so will we.
These have an egg case which could be any colour for attraction, but emerald is for caddis...
One tip is to trim tail at a 45 as you can't cross hands to cut it square...you will see what I mean..Or you can leave it with a tuft so it's easier to see on the water.
Another tip is to open the pressure or twist-off lid for these tiny beads over a bowl in case these spill. Remember the game 52 Pickup. This would be 10,000 Pickup enough for a lifetime supply. Check Craft stores like Michaels to find these beads in colours and sizes. You can trim off the stray fibers at the hook bend or leave them attached to resemble feelers.
Field-tested, the flies hook well and I had observed no difference (corner mouth take) and it was easy to tie onto my tippet with a clear hookeye...just hold by tail and shank..the materials will be up out of the way as they are sticking up.
I believe fish see the fly imprint in spite of the hook...I think that a fly, especially a dry with calftail hair or snowshoe rabbit, dances in the current no matter to which end the tippet is attached. If fished wet, I don't believe that underwater flies move along like a straight torpedo but are tumbled rather in the current as they drift. This pattern will hook fish....guaranteed.
MATERIALS....
- #14 barbless hook
- 6/0 thread
- No. 11/0 Czech beads (available from craft store)
- tan calf tail
- hare's ear dubbing
This reverse tying style can be used with many flies and your imagination, but for example, likely not streamers.
You may vary the calftail wing colour to black, or brown or white and the body colours to resemble many types of insects, olives, sulphurs, gray and brown drakes, a green drake, or lots more.. Also try various bead colours for attraction, sky's the limit...
Have a great season in 2025 and wade safe on the water, and when walking along the path.
