9:38 That was the exact moment I knew I had to have one. Two years later, and it's still one of my favorite tools.

Thanks for the review. Soldering by hand is a painful horrendous process and I think the joy in your voice from this video is enough to break open the piggy bank for this

I agree. I use my FR-301 mostly for mobile/field use, however... for my in lab/bench use, I use my Pace SX-100 w/MBT-250 combination which I find much more ergonomic and practical for bench repairs. The downside with a separate bench powered desoldering tool is that the quality ones are VERY expensive and if one only needs it occasionally, then something like the FR-301 would be a better choice.

Another thing I notice from experience is that I merely use the weight of the desoldering tool rest on the joint until solder flows, then slightly "oscillate" the tool shortly before and during vacuuming. Using this technique, I've reduced the amount of sweat joints (leftover through hole solder). Also, when I'm done with all work, I hold the desoldering tip upright, then hold the vacuum for about 3 to 5 seconds to let any residual solder flow out of the inner desoldering tip into the chamber, then turn the tip "downwards" and re-tin the tip, therefore not having to use the inner tip tube cleaning tool too often (which can wear the tips out quickly). These techniques have allowed me to keep tips for all my desoldering tools over 3 years.

Just my 2 cents.

I just discovered this channel yesterday but man I can tell you don't mess around. Only the best equipment on here. I have a cheaper desoldering gun That I use occasonally. Much better to replace a 30 cent push button than the 800 dollar board. Yes agreed on joining the IBEW!

I have a plunger type, but it is heated, from 2008 or so. This one is a super sucker all right! used mine mostly to replace those swollen caps back in the day.

Hey you stumbled across a hidden gem. Hakko makes some amazing tools. Their soldering station is great. Also their flush cutters are the sharpest flush cutters I've ever owned (including klein and knipex). Worth way more than the $6 they cost

I still have an old Radio Shack Red handle soldering tool, I've had it since either 1998 or 1999. Still works. I've used it so rarely that the white radio shack logo on the handle still hasn't worn off the yet.

Hey man I’m 26 is it to late for me to become an electrician? Would you suggest open shop or union route for my late age?

Looks much nicer quality than my Katsu unit, but I hardly ever desolder, so I couldn't justify the price of a Hakko unit.Once you have used this type of gun though, you wonder why you didn't go out and get on early. Using those plunger units is a right pain compared to one of these.

Just got one.6 seconds, just like you did to remove a capacitor & the board didn't get hot, I bet us dumb Americans will demand that they put a digital version out and, ruin it. I just went to Walmart for a stainless trash can, and all they had was digital trash cans, SERIOUSLY digital trash cans were doomed

"when i want somethin' i get it"
nice lol. Started thinking like this when i realized buying all the cheap chinese tools people kept recommending were trash that broke down very easy, get the right tool for the job and with patience and learning to use the tools properly, it pays you back fast even if its pricey. Kinda wish hakko would still lower their prices at least a bit but hey can't beat the performance and reliability of their products. Good video.
