Man, I'm grateful I have a wonderful mother in law. She always helps me as she specialises in helping mentally challenged children and I'm on the autism spectrum as well as her son who I married. I will never forget the tears that fell from her face as she admitted she feared her son would never find love due to him having a hard time socializing, makes me cried as well as I thought I would never find someone as well.

"a manipulative poopie face!" What an annoying bunch of mothers-in-law! My inclination would be to take each of them aside and say, "You realize, when the time comes, that we're the ones who are going to decide what home to put you in..." and then smile.

2) MIL sounds awful, so sorry OP, and shame on your husband for just brushing off his family's nastiness and not sticking up for you more.

Wow. These stories made me "teeth-clenching" mad. Hearing the horrible mother in law stories make me so happy I'm single right now. Ugh. It also makes me glad that my SIL and FSIL are the wonderful women that they are and don't seem to have any major issues with my mom (to my knowledge - I live in another state).

with the last story I am confused. When she said I had no say in the nursery at all. How does that happen? If my husband did that I would have thrown the entire nursery out into the garbage. I don't understand these women, they allow the MIL's and the husbands to get away with this crap. Sorry but if you allow it, it's somewhat your fault.

If I’d have been op in the situation where mil left the baby girl alone for 5 hours I’d have walked downstairs handed her to husband and told him to take the kids out to the car. When he left with them I’d have tore her open verbally and told her she was NEVER seeing them again and would never have anything to do with them again under any circumstances before I tore into her a couple more times for good measure.

My ex MIL hated me and all the other DIL’s because only sluts would marry her sons! She LOVED her Sons in law, who were really horrible, and would sit on their laps and hug and kiss them running her fingers thru their hair...ugh🤮. She also flirted with her sons.

I think that the (nurse) mother in the last story should have been reported to nursing authorities for her behaviour towards a woman with PPD. With luck previous patients would be interviewed which might lead to sanctions.

Second story: From the VERY BEGINNING of this wife's relationship with the new mother-in-law and her daughter, the new wife should have made it crystal clear that their opinions of her didn't matter and from now on they were to keep their opinions of her and anything she does to themselves or they would not be having a relationship with the new wife and her husband, period. When MIL reacts, and she would, hold the line. No relationship of any kind if they are going to assume they can talk negatively about the new wife to her, her husband or anyone else. Hold their feet to the fire.
