Sony raising prices 2 years AFTER launch absolutely ruined things.

Nintendo has sold consoles at a profit since day 1, so they're only making more money with each system sold.

The games are becoming super expensive, the consoles are becoming super expensive, the online subscriptions are becoming expensive, and the in game "micro" transactions are becoming super expensive. Our wallets are getting sucked dry.

I grabbed an extra Dreamcast when it hit $50. It’s still sitting in my closet unopened.

The switch never had a price drop because somehow the same switch and MK bundle kept selling every year…

Graphics in video games don’t mean squat to me anymore. I like great story and FUN games.

I think the push into cloud gaming is a step to cement people not owning games they buy. You won't be buying games instead you'll be investing into the service and you'll own nothing and be happy about it.

There’s a reason why consoles are getting expensive, the pointless chase for higher graphical fidelity leading to higher development costs and longer development cycles, leading to price gouging with micro transactions masquerading as DLC we’re already at breaking point and the sooner people vote with their wallets then these greedy developers will finally get the message.

It really is bizarre. Bare minimum on Microsoft's side, the 1 TB Series S should have replaced the 500 GB model at $300. Ideally, the new 2 TB Series X should have replaced the original Series X at $500 and the new all-digital Series X should have been priced at $400. For Nintendo, we should have seen a $150 Switch Lite and a $250 regular Switch a long time ago. For Sony, we should have seen a $350 PS5 Digital Edition with the Slim model (it was unbelievable for them to actually RAISE the price instead), with the regular PS5 Slim coming in at $450.

Put together a PC, don't subscribe to game subs, buy most games on sale, don't worry about console bs. Have a Switch as well obviously.

I don't want to be that guy, but this is literally why I went to PC full time in 2013... I saw this happening and becoming a new norm. Literally. The moment Microsoft went "the Xbox One will be Online only" and it made me consider just building a PC instead... So that's what I did.

Everything is becoming so much more expensive faster than wages can keep up with it. These big corporations aren't content with making anytning less than the absolute highest profit possible, consumers be damned.

600 bucks for a console is fine
but 70 is a big ask for some games
especially when they go digital only
most games I'm fine with just waiting
for a price drop. These companies need
to drop the paywall to play online

Still a ps4 gamer. I'm not even considering buying a ps5 until it is $300 or less WITH a game. If the price never reaches that point, I'll be skipping this gen.

I literally bought my slim ps4 for $200, with Spiderman. The fact these consoles are still this price is wild to me.

The main point that should be emphasized is that $600 today is A LOT different from what $600 was when the PS3 launched. We’d likely need to see over $800 consoles in today’s currency to get even close to the same comparison.

I remember the PS4 selling for $199 but by the end of its life selling for $349, go figure

We're currently dealing with massive inflation. What was $300 in 2017 would be the equivalent of at least $400 today. This makes it incredibly difficult for there to be any price cuts, let alone significant ones. $599.99 today is not even close to the value $599.99 was in 2006, the launch PS3 would've cost over one thousand dollars in today's money.

Let it crash. I have a backlog to last me 5 lifetimes

Microsoft told DF they created the Series S because console manufacturing costs weren’t going to drop significantly this generation. They knew that well before the pandemic was even heard of.

Sony’s first party games this gen haven’t grabbed me as much.

The problem is 2 things, many people stopped working and became resellers (scalpers) and the pandemic created a hole in the inventory of not just silicon, but parts in general for everything. No reason to price cut when you have almost empty warehouses
