Curious how I made this? check out the build video here:

If you wish to build this for yourself you could find more information, including plans and 3d printable models on my website:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In this video I go into the physics of my spinning water demo.
I derive the exact curve of the water surface using simple high school physics and math.

It turns out that the shape is a parabola! more specifically it's a paraboloid, but my thin tank only shows a cross section of it.

I use the derived curve to estimate how fast the tank spins. I was able to verify the obtained value by directly measuring the RPM, and it seems that everything holds up :)

Excellent content and quality!
Understandable explanation with very pleasing visuals.
Im really surprised you're not more popular, channels which have millions of viewers couldnt have done this any better. Thanks dude!

You're underrated af... I was just reading sth. about Newtons bucket and why it is so crucial for gaining a better understanding of the structure of the universe itself..never thought sb took the time and explained it in such detail and mathematical eloquence. What a nice demonstration. Keep up the excellent work

Fantastic work! the only pity is though the answer 291 is right, there should be 2π instead of π on 4:11
Besides, Why no video in 2 years? Keep going Red head!

When you are not a science/engineering major, science is amazing on its own. But when you are a science/engineering major, science is even more amazing with Math

A Rotating Bucket, with water surface curved, fascinated physicists ever since Isaac Newton. Newton's Bucket produced the argument that a rotating or accelerating frame of reference is different than an inertial frame (where different inertial frames differ by moving in constant velocity, with respect to each other). A more modern view, in accord with the General Theory of Relativity, says that spacetime looks different in the rotating frame and the motion of a probe particle along the geodesic curve in the rotating frame geometry, looks to us like the probe experiences centrifugal force, holding a probe drop up at the rim of the bucket.

Keep posting the videos 😉 !
They are very useful and informative !

Also, this derivation shows that the parabola's intersection points with the x axis are fixed, whatever the rotation speed is. I never noticed that before even though I'm familiar with this demonstration. I tried going back to the video and seeing the stationary points, but its pretty difficult to spot. I guess that there are some imperfections that makes this less noticeable. Still, without the parabola derivation I wouldn't have noticed that.
