Top 5 best egg laying chickens breeds
1 Not only are these breeds some of the best egg layers, but they are also dual purpose breeds, except for the white leghorn breed.
Although the white leghorn breed isn't considered a dual purpose bird this breed is probably number one when it comes to egg laying.
As chickens get older every year their egg rate begins to decline so choosing the right breeds for eggs is very important.
The last breed (Red and or Gold sex-links) are pretty much the same. They are not recognized by the American Poultry Association. but they are phenomenal egg layers. This breed is also known as Cinnamon Queens, Golden Comets, Gold Sex-links, and Red Stars
Chick season is around the corner!

We have all of those breeds except the last one! They should start laying very soon! We got our barred rock for a 4-H project!

Chickens also lay different amount of eggs and start laying different times depending of which line of breeding you buy. Just going for a name of breed guarantees you nothing. You have to find a good breeder to enyoy the production on paper.

I have had all of these chickens. In my experience, Rhode Island reds laid by far the most eggs and also were the most hearty and survived cold Massachusetts winters in their coupe with my whole flock surviving. These chickens laid eggs for years and stayed healthy. I would not recommend the leghorn chickens. These chickens did not live very long, would attack each other, would get sick a lot more, and finally laid the least amount of eggs, especially in comparison to all the other chickens that are on this list. One interesting thing, though, is the leghorns were by far the smartest, and would figure out ways to get out of the coop, jumping on different objects like they were doing parkour. The remaining chickens that I did not name are a good middle ground. To summarize, get the Rhode Island reds if you can, and stay away from the leg horns.

These are all great breeds. But the older they get the fewer eggs they lay. You’re not gonna see an egg for five or six months. And with the start up costs, you’re not gonna save any money. So you’re gonna get high-quality eggs, but do not dream that you’re gonna save money. If you’re not willing to put in the work, then just buy your eggs at the grocery store.

In the winter you have to provide artificial lighting for up to 10 to 14 hours to get some results when there isn’t enough light during the days also some of your chickens look really sick you have to clean their coops from overly stacked chicken droppings and make an outer shell with fine mesh fence wire so foreign birds don’t get inside because they’re the other reason why your chickens can get sickly

The white hen in the video is not a white leghorn at all . White leghorn are slender with a very developed comb that I'd tilted on side . It's not like every white chicken is a white leghorn .
