lolita; looking too closely

I think I spent FAR too long on this edit (over 2 weeks infact) but I am proud of it. Decided to do a full-ish length end of Lolita's story. We all know how diverse the film is compared to the book. The sad thing is, there are some really nice aesthetics in this movie, if it wasn't for the brutally harsh storyline. I'm quite surprised I managed to get another edit done, I've been constantly on and off with the making of this edit. I did (as usual) feel like the song fitted the fandom, from Dolores' innocence, to Humberts obsession. Enjoy.

THIS is wonderful!! ❤ You don't focus on the rare mutual kissing scenes💋 to romanticise the relationship as a lot of other fan content sadly does, those kisses were the result of an immature 12 year olds crush which Humbert had every obligation and opportunity to avoid. Instead he manipulated her child's crush and the strangely turbulent relationship with her mother who never showed her daughter any kindly attention. Hence why she had low self worth and sought it from strangers.😢 Humbert was not her lover as some like to believe but her captor. I adore both the novel and the Dominique Swain film adaptation but view it is an unrequited love story, not a consenting one. It was a refreshing rarity to see vital characters like Quilty and Charlotte too, 👍 usually the sordid reality of the plot is dismissed altogether. Excellent effort which I am saving and the blue tint was very aesthetically apt 💙 Also I have never heard it b4 but I adored the song you used, it really complimented the content.

I love that you added Charlotte calling Lo a miserable brat nothing that happened to Lo was her fault

Her own mother seemed more angry that Humbert wanted Lo more than her she reminds me of my own mother

This was simply a MASTERCLASS in editing. As the kids say these days, you "understood the assignment".😁
From the lustrous color palette, the immaculately-timed music and scene choices, to the framing of the simultaneously poignant and oppressive gaze of Humbert... it was if I was seeing a film I've seen a dozen times like the first again.

None of this would be possible without Adrian Lyne's lyrical and masterful direction, Vladimir Nabokov's sublime ability to evoke sympathy for a societal leper like Humbert, and Jeremy Irons' SUPERNATURAL ability to imbue his portrayal of said character with those same qualities. On the strength of this one SUPERB masterwork, I'm duly bound to follow you. 🙏🏽🥂😊
