KNOCK AT THE CABIN (Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse + Ending) EXPLAINED

Hey guys what’s happening? Niyat here with film comics explained. As requested, today we’ll be exploring Knock at the Cabin, the 2023 post-apocalyptic thriller written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan, based on the novel The Cabin at the End of the World by Paul G. Tremblay.

Starring Dave Bautista, Rupert Grint, Jonathan Groff, Kristen Cui, Ben Aldridge, Nikki Amuka-Bird, and Abby Quinn, the film revolves around a family whose holiday is upended by a cult. Told they need to sacrifice one of their own to prevent the end of the world, the thriller has them and the audience question whether the invaders were lunatics or messengers of truth.

Much like the rest of M. Night Shyamalan’s filmography, the backbone of the movie is intrigue and mystery. A group are faced with weird supernatural circumstances and are forced to make tough self-revelatory choices that go on to define them, and occasionally the world around them.

Part of what lured the director to the project is his fascination with the weird and unexplainable. Ironically, as we’ll discuss in this video, that didn’t stop him from taking certain liberties that traded the ambiguity in the novel for more explicit themes and iconography. The guy loves his symbolism.

In this video, we’re going to explain the narrative, the main characters in the story and how the film differs from the novel.

This movie is gripping. At first I thought the “strangers” were malicious, but I knew that wasn’t the case almost immediately. I could feel the dread and sense of uncomfortable duty the strangers had to bring to the family’s attention. I cried I laughed I smiled and I had body shakes all in one movie. M Night delivers with this one. 8.5/10.

I really enjoyed this movie. Oddly, I to was expecting the usual M. Night's twist. I was glad there wasn't one but weirdly enough, kind of felt..sad?, that there wasn't one. Huge props to Bautista. People were making him out to be the next Rock, but he has clearly shown that he is on a whole different level in regards to his acting chops. I see huge things for him. I hope the MCU recasts him from being Drax in the GOTG (Guardians of the Galaxy) franchise. Also, how does Shyamalan look the same as he did 20 years ago?
