My boy Dante was way ahead of his time with tier lists.

“Hey Dante, you ready to go to hea….” Made me laugh uncontrollably

I feel like we've both gone on this adventure together, now, at this point. Thanks for being our Virgil.

“If someone always seeks truth, they will always find God at the end of it.” might be one of the most reassuring quotables I have ever heard.

I really enjoy how Divine Comedy went from "look at all those losers" to "please explain in 20 words or less about the paradoxical nature of time and the intrinsicate sense of superior will in mortal thinking"

“There are no prizes for circumstance, only character”

Man dropped one of the hardest quotes ever spoken

Reminder that this is the Medieval equivalent of hard scifi. Dante takes great pains to stick to what most scholars of the day considered the way the stars and planets worked mechanically.

I lived with an Italian dude in Barcelona for two years while studying philosophy. Him and I had a "Day of Dante, " every third Sunday of the months. We'd drink wine, eat tapas and talk Dante.
I think I learned more about literature and philosophy on those days.
To David! Miss you buddy...every day. He'd call me Virgil on those days too. Good read.

Also, neat little detail about when Dante talks to Emperor Justinian, he introduces himself thus: "Caesar I was and am Justinian." I just love the way this shows that even the most important and powerful titles have passed away into insignificance in Heaven, because they don't matter compared to the fact that you are a Son or Daughter of God.

The significance of Virgil’s inability to guide Dante to Paradise is actually something I think is worth some focus. Dante thought of Virgil as the great philosopher and mind. He represents the faculties of reason and logic; and while these reasonable faculties can orient Dante towards Divinity, ultimately when the time comes they are not enough. Instead Beatrice, a beautiful maiden, Dante’s love carries him where all intellect fails.

I love that Dante's Inferno is basically a story about a man who whilst seeing fantastical mind breaking shit his only burning question is "ay bro how's the war effort"

Late to the party, but honestly, this series has inspired me to be less negative about the world around me. That was a brilliant telling of a classic. When you're on the internet for a long time it's very easy to sink into the comfort of nilihism and make everything a joke because you can understand and pick apart the aspects of any story.

Towards the ending of purgatorio and paradiso your telling had me holding back tears. It was wonderful. I'm not even religious but I feel what Dante must have been feeling as he tries to answer life's questions and as I read in his attempts to explain them.

I love the dichotomy of this channel. One week he’s explaining how the FBI killed MLK Jr., the next he’s getting choked up by the beauty of God’s love. Keep it up Mr. Goon!

Statius: "Yay, more adventures!"
Dante: "Eh? You were a Season 2 plot device mate, we're past that bit now"
Statius: "Oh f-"
*Statius vanishes in a puff of narrative irrelevance*

Came for strange theological acid trip. Stayed to hear more about Dante's increasingly incomprehensibly beautiful eldritch horror of a girlfriend

Dantes visualization of the trinity between god, jesus and the holy spirit is one of the most beautiful things that I've heard in my 24 years of life so far. made me tear up

I'll be honest seeing you tear up reading Dante's prayer made me tear up too. It's amazing how almost ridiculous Inferno is compared to this (it's still good though). I felt the emotion you felt and maybe even a little bit of how Dante felt writing this. Having been kicked out of Florence and now in this writing not only reaffirming his faith in God but also moving on, leaving that part of him behind. He goes through most of the trilogy asking about the fate of Florence, now giving it up as he realizes that the life he lives on earth will ultimately mean nothing compared to the life he will live in Heaven.

what an adventure. What started out as a religious fanfic, full of silliness and humor, turned into a deep, emotional and divine journey. Thank you so much for doing this story, it was an absolute pleasure start to finish

I'm not religious, so in the beginning I was like, hey fun story to watch during sewing.
And now in the last video, I absolutely love it. This whole concept fascinates me and just this believe and creativity that went into these books, it really amazes me

honestly thank you for this because as you said, people in the US are so used to dante's inferno and the depictions of hell. We hardly have anything to grasp as far as what heaven is like. As a christian i needed this video more than you know because i didn't even know dante's paradiso existed. I need to feel a sense of peace about the afterlife instead of stories of hell all the time that make me scared to die. Its good to have some form of understanding (whether its truly accurate or not) of heaven for once. I want to seek more knowledge of heaven it is very interesting.
