knowing the context of the religious conflicts in the 1600s makes these works so interesting because you can see the distinct similarities between the story and what the author was going through in real life

My favorite parts of this:
- Gabriel calling Satan a wuss
- “Wow, that cherub is…going through it.”
- Adam innocently asking if angels mate and Raphael physically blushing
- Adam seeing what Eve did and realizing that he was going to be lonely again and he’d rather be dead
- Satan’s argument to taking over Heaven basically being “You think God is our Mom?? Do you Remember being born? I don’t remember being born” and it WORKED??
- Mary being the Second Eve that defeats the Serpent on Eve’s behalf
- “Tell me about His great battle” and him getting choked up explaining that the “Battle” was literally just Love
- Satan in paradise carrying Hell with him bc of his Despair and humanity leaving paradise with Hope
- “I’m sorry did the Snake write this???”

The Devil: "Do I have free will? Can I just choose to not be completely awful anymore?"
...
Also the Devil: "Nah nonono, I'm just like this. It's God who's at fault."

"But god said that if I eat it, I'll die"
"Nuh uh" said the snake

The fact that Eve considered suicide is such a heartbreaking thought, I can't help but pity her and Adam

"That cherub is really going through it a minute cherubs don't cry"

I almost cried at the part where Adam saw Eve with the fruit and the wreath falls to the ground. But the way it was immediately followed by SO SATAN AND ALL THE OTHER FALLEN ANGELS ARE BUILDING A CHAOS BRIDGE THEY'VE BEEN DOING THIS THIS ENTIRE TIME. My sides went into orbit.

I’m not even a Christian, but I really want to make an accurate, high-budget movie that shows this story start to finish.

I’m not Christian, in fact I was brought up in a very anti religious household. I’ve always had an interest in religion, but seeing you cry over the loss of purity in humanity really solidified how much religion can mean to people. I thank you for sharing a religious view on things as it’s helped me understand how important it is to those who believe it.

Never kill the part of you that is cringe, kill the part that cringes. Thank you for always being authentic. It means the most💚

i'm not a least bit religious and wasn't born in a christian household either but tell me why this absolutely beautifully complex story has me in tears. stories about satan's fall has always intrigued me. paradise lost explores his characterisations so ...humanely? i love this so much!!

I loved that part when Satan told Eve about how awful Florence was and then Virgil stopped them from eating the fruit of knowledge, giving Satan second thoughts about his plan

Brother don't you dare apologize for crying! This story is beautiful and made even more so by your telling of it. Crying in YouTube videos does come off as "cringe" sometimes but it all depends on the context. You put tears in my eyes friend and and I'm not at all ashamed or embarrassed about admitting that. As always...thank you for all that you do. You're the man Mr. Goon!

I love how the story describes the times Satan was caught lacking. He was disguised as a frog. I can only imagine a demon hiding from angels by pretending to be a frog holds the same expression as silent shock of walking in on someone doing something stupid in their bedroom.

Adam dropping the crown and saying his monologue, almost made me cry. So tragic.

Man, you're the only one who can sell me biblical stories in a way that has me genuinely invested and wanting to hear more. No preaching, no judgment, just your passion for the story and how it affects you personally, as you approach it from all these philosophical perspectives, and it's just so genuine that I can't help but be on board. I left organized religion years ago (I was raised catholic) and at this point I'm just kind of a spiritual whateverist based on whatever feels meaningful to me, but revisiting the biblical stories with you is almost kind of nostalgic. Reminds me of my grandma, who's really into angels (yet not so much into christianity as a whole, it's mostly... angels laced with new age spiritualism). Angels and demons and the genesis/exodus story have always been my favorite parts of the christian religion when I was a kid, so it's nice to revisit it from a different perspective.

I love how much respect Eve is given in the story. I heard very ignorant people validate the pain women go through in child birth bc of Eve and that it automatically spits women in this place of shame and disrespect. So much of the story acknowledges the beauty of growing a person inside and constantly points out that Eve was the first “Holy Mother of Man” meaning she deserves respect. It’s just so refreshing to hear Adam speak about his love for his partner and the importance of her in the world. I teared up at some points too.

“A lot of random guys in weird shirts telling you about obscure topics” is a scarily accurate description of the type of stuff I spend my days watching

1:17:52 Wow, I'm speechless. I've never read Milton, but this idea that Adam knew - he knew! - what was going to happen and yet chose to eat the fruit anyway because he loved Eve so much is such tragedy.
