I think the best part about Iroh's story is how he dealt with Zuko. When we see people in the world going down a path that we know is wrong, and will end in pain and self-destruction, we so often want to muscle our way in and forcefully tell them what they need to do, or even take charge of them and force them to do what is right. However, that almost always ends badly, with the person going down the bad path pulling away from our influence and/or control, and going even more stubbornly down the path of self-destruction. But Iroh teaches us a good lesson about helping someone going down a wrong path. He knew Zuko was not ready to listen to him. But he never gave up on him. He stuck by Zuko through everything, planting seeds of wisdom where he could, and patiently loved Zuko the rest of the time. It is hard seeing people we care about going down a bad path; but, if we pay attention to Uncle Iroh, perhaps we could learn some valuable lessons on how to help them.

Iroh wasn't a typical firebender, but he was more a warming fire that could comfort you on a cold night. 🔥

For me, Uncle Iroh reminds me of my late grandfather. They had the same outlook on life, the same humor, and the same love of proverbs. The lesson that my grandfather taught me the most before he passed was to think of three things in any given situation. What is wise, what is smart, and what is right. Besides that, he taught me many things. To respect and understands other's views and to use them to strengthen or develop your own. To take failings with grace and use those moments, not as reminders of what you failed to do then, but to use them as motivation to see the ways you can grow and learn. There are many many more but I just wanted to share a few I find I use in everyday life, some of the things are a bit more specific, either way, thank you for reading and I hope you all have a lovely rest of your day!

You know, when iroh was younger he was a way more typical fire nation citizen and embraced all the qualities expected of a fire nation qualities you listed. You can see this in the flashback where he sends a letter to young zuko and azula, and casually jokes about invading Ba Sing Se. He only became the curious wise and compassionate person after his son passed away.

I think what’s beautiful about this character is that he starts off as the one who knows he can’t stop war from happening, but he also knows war isn’t the solution to anything. Teaching kids at a young age that war isn’t cool is something that most media fails to do honestly, whereas here we have a moment to reflect on what iroh lost, and how it taught him that war was doing the same thing to others on a massive scale. If ozai hadn’t been a political manipulator, iroh might have ended the war as firelord after his revelation.

I wouldn’t even mind if they made a Uncle Iroh tv series about his adventures

I always saw Iroh as a Stoic Master, on par with Marcus Aurelius, Epictetus, or Seneca. Courage, justice, temperance, wisdom. Iroh embodied all those virtues. He sought to control what was in his control and dealt with what was not in his control with dignity and grace. He did what he thought was right for others and the common good, and he showed gratitude for all that he had, even when what he had was nothing.

You weren't wrong when you said he was the most likable character.

You have to remember that Iroh was also a human, and humans are never perfect. We all make mistakes, especially in our youth. What makes Iroh special is that he was able to break from that past, take the wisdom he learned from it, apply it to his future, while striving to not make the same mistakes. He shows us all that humans can learn and become better, that **I** can learn and become better, that **we** can learn and become better.

That is why people love Iroh. Not because he was perfect, but precisely because he was not.

All do respect I think you are wrong about uncle iroh. He wasn't always wise and capable of seeing past how the firenation was hateful and ignorant. He was the "Dragon of the west" and almost conquered ba sing se until his son lu ten died. His younger brother did some creative backstabbing and used that as an excuse to have him passed over for the throne. This is what started his spiritual journey. Yes he may have always had a strong connection to the spirit world but i think it is very important that he was able to rise above the propaganda and lies he was raised in all through his life on his own after his son died. All said, well made video but I just love how uncle iroh grew as a person into everyone's favorite uncle.

Iroh is the parent or uncle we all desperately need to support us. The man never failed to read people, which is why he always knew what to say and do. Sadly, most people rarely have enough empathy and compassion to do so.

Aang was the Avatar and technically more powerful, but Iroh was wiser and more experienced. The world needed the skills of the Avatar, but it needed the wisdom of Iroh even more

Iroh is such a role model. More wisdom than anyone the average person meets in their whole life.

Another interesting fact about Iroh's character is that he is an absolute badass. His peaceful nature is always a choice.

I lost my only caretaker at the time, my grandmother to breast cancer, at that time I was only 14 and unsure of how to feel or how to deal with loss of my only family, my mother ran away from her problems before she had to learn to face it, but for me, I went on for years without facing my grief. I lost my grandma when I was 14, I am now almost 20, and now I’m trying to learn how to face the pain I was dealing with and not just try to forget about it, but to learn from it and go forward. I loved watching Avatar the Last Airbender as a kid, and the one character I always remembered fondly liking was Iroh, because he was wise and always had a way to deal with his grief, something that I can now take from and put it to heart. Thank you for this video, in a time like this where I’m really struggling to face my pain, this got recommended to me, and I couldn’t be happier.

I love the reference to Bruce Lee, and the tao of jeet kune do. I agree that uncle Iroh was an embodiment of that philosophy. I think he was a perfect example of the way Bruce Lee would've addressed life.
